The paragraph is to actually make it harder to get their names into blacklist. If you use the default chat window size, the paragraph pushes their name out of the frame but leaves their gibberish. When you go to add them to black list, clicking back and forth resets the chat window scroll so it makes it harder to manually add their gibberish, keyboard assaulting names and block them.

All that trouble is bypassed with a copy/paste, of course! But a lot of folks don't seem to realize you can do that from the chat log currently.

Right click > ignore player? Yes, please.

They might have underestimated how problematic it would be and didn't think to add an entire option just for gold seller reporting. However I agree a right click > blacklist would be great.
Also I know no one who has left the game over annoying gil sellers. Turned off Shout, yes. Left the game, no.

It is simple they just need to use a good IP tracker in game one that singles out the IP address they are using not the general gateway and ban the IP it would take a while but in the end cost would start to out way profit and they would stop. This tactic is used by certain web sites and it works very well. By banning the IP they would stop them from being able to re buy the game and start over again and again because the address would be blocked causing them to have to cancel internet service and buy new internet service. I personally like the idea a lot of countries are toying with that if a hacker hacks a site they should be aloud to return the service in kind and be able to send viruses and things. May sound messed up but if someone is using a CPU for the wrong reasons then they should not be screaming about rights.

(At least SE would make a revenue off of them)
^^ This X 100. The most logical, useful, easy to implement solution and thus the absolute last one SE will ever consider doing. They implement in game cash purchases for Crysta I'm history.

I've had 4 or 5 RMT messages so far, if I recall correctly. I believe 3 of them were /Shouts, by characters with names like "Djjjffddjrj Frjrjrffjrrj." The other two were from legit character names, and were /Tells -- I wonder if they were hack/compromised accounts. Either way, I blocked/reported them all.

    Some tips to remember:
    1) If the spam was in a /Tell, simply type /blist add <r> to blacklist the character who last whispered you.
    2) Keep in mind you can drag your cursor over any text to highlight, copy and paste -- including character names. This makes blacklisting and reporting players with names like "Djjjffddjrj Frjrjrffjrrj" way easier, and avoids mistakes.

Some advice to Square Enix to enhance their reporting features:
    1) Make it as easy as humanly possible, for players to report and blacklist RMT spammers. Why not have an option for both, by simply right-clicking the character's name?
    2) Does blacklisting one character on an account block the entire account? If not, I see no reason why that shouldn't be adjusted. Also, if one of my characters blacklists another user, I expect all of my characters to have done so.
    3) Right Click > Report This Message. I don't know why I haven't seen this function in any MMORPG to date, but please let us report the specific message and not just the user in general. The game can automatically retrieve all the necessary data using this method, including player name, server, time & date, location, method of communication, etc. This method could be implemented for any kind of user reporting, not just for RMT, and it makes way more sense than relying on those involved to provide those details in their own words. It will also make it way faster/easier for GMs to look it up and investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, as the info is precise and in a usable format.

If you have a mouse/kb you can select/copy/paste the name into the blacklist/report form.

Well how do World of Warcraft and Guild Wars 2 handle it? Because it's far more prevalent in FFXIV than in either of those games. The entire chat is just flooded with people spamming this stuff. It's all very well for you to shoot down people's suggestions here, but that doesn't address the issue.

Most of these accounts are compromised ones. Remember what Blizzard did? They added incentives for people to add their security token to their account(s). The security tokens were available on their phones, as a token, or as a windows application. As far as I know, this stops most accounts thefts. Guild Wars 2 did something similar, however they used Google's authenticator as an added security measure.

Getting an authenticator is a good start. Incentives for those who add them will even encourage more people, even if it's just a lame mini-pet. Another thing they could do is add e-mail code verifications, something Anet did for GW1 & 2. Once you log into the account, the e-mail registered will be sent a code which you use to log in. This will authenticate the PC currently trying to log in, and will have to be done for every single unique PC. Another thing would be for them to add a right click > report spam (auto blacklist as well), as well as faster response to these spammers.
