I would want to play some kind of post-apocalyptic MMO, something that was inspired by and drew elements from Mad Max, Akira, and Fist of the North Star. Survival would be the big theme in the game. You'd fight bandits/gangs, mutants, etc. Some classes I'd like to see would like an engineer/gunslinger class that could customize their weapons to alter their abilities/skills. A mystic/martial artist class that would rely on martial techniques/"chi" (like Fist of the North Star). A half-mutant/psychic class that had telekinetic/mental powers (like Akira). A vagabond/samurai class that would kind of be like Michonne from the "Walking Dead".

Some areas would be like vast deserts with sporadic encampments with roaming nomads, cities on the water in areas have been flooded by polar ice caps melting, underground cities, ruins of abandoned cities.

A large part of the story would be trying to find out what the hell happened to the world.

I guess the closest thing would be a really good Borderlands MMO.

My "Perfect" MMO (without using other MMO names):

A realistic world/characters filled with breathtaking animations ranging from spells/attacks to Cut-scenes etc.

Big towns that are fast to navigate (maybe even have an in-town railway system to jump on real quick).

It would have jump but it would be class specific animations. (example: Lancer would thrust up with his polearm, mage would use a spell underneath his feet to gain momentum etc..., there would be a delay due to the animation and landing so you could not spam it like bunny-hopping)

There would be a vast array of quest-types to do. However progression would not just be: click this quest and go here, continue to max level etc... Depending on Quest-type reward would be based on the # of players, difficulty of monsters & the time remaining (reward would be EXP, Money, Armor and/or Random Reward Box).

Regular monsters all across the world would drop very basic gear so you always have something to upgrade to even if it sux. You would be able to add stats with a sort of slot system if you choose. The stones to place in slots would drop from all monsters (not too great stats, unless rare NM) and the better ones would be crafted or dropped from very special areas.

EVERY single zone would have a "% completed" collection for fun. In the main interface you would view the objectives that you needed to do to complete a zone 100%. Achievements for 100% would likely be along the lines of a nice "gemstone" or a special glow/icon around your character while in the area. Treasure rates also would go up a little while in the zone. Little enhancements like that.

Not just a "card game", but several (10~) mini-games all across the world. Different "cultures" would have different games that you could play. Part of doing this would be for collection and competition.

PvP. I'm not the biggest PvP fan, but you could duel anyone if they accepted or "rent out" an instance of a zone to have larger battles in (like towns or battlefields or something). There may even be a sort of friendly "PvPvE" that you and your friends place monsters in an editor and then you all enter to see who can kill the most monsters & reach the end while killing each-other to slow others down.

Built in to the interface would be the ability to access tutorial information, guides/recommendations & official forum along with bug-reporting.

ALL content would have a sort of bill-board at the entrance for players to vote on the enjoyability/fun/challenge. They would only be able to vote after doing the content at least 1 time and would need to wait about 1 month or until developmental changes to that system to vote again.

There would always, at the very least, be bosses included in most content at the "end". However, there would also be very memorable bosses for much more challenging content.

Guilds would level up from the progress of everyone in the guild. The rewards would be like passive traits that are applied to everyone in the guild. There may even be a sort-of "talent tree" for a guild to choose.

Leveling up would only get you so far, but defeating bosses would be necessary for "unlocking" things to progress your character even further (ex: killing MegaBoss #1 = Higher impact of VIT on DEF & HP etc, Boss #2 = Ability to use another slot on armor for your "gemstones" etc etc).

Bah, i can't add any more, busy and gtg. But you can sort-of imagine how it could be. Bottom line is no straight-line to max level and always fun content for all levels (mini-games).

I like MMOs that have a lot of quests. Some you need a group for. Some you can solo. I also like a main story that's presented separate from the content quests.

Never played it, but i've played mmos where you have the choice to start on a capped char (old free to play mind u) or level, and i much prefer being on the capped char and not having to level to get skills, i much prefer questing and the such to get better, not hitting a goat on the head 5000 times.

of course if there has to be one because the developer is not creative enough to have without, then do something like tera/xiv where in xiv you have the guildleves, which SE soon will dish out loads to help people and there is a variety, and in tera its all quests and nms that you level on.

i like Fable's idea of the story makes your character stronger and the decisions you choose through the game dictate how you look and how the lore reacts to you and ofc how your weapons are designed, but it was very minimal customization (ofc its a single player) and i think their implementation was very dull in fable 3 where after a story you just pop a chest n bam ur stronger lol isn't very motivating.

    Perfect mmo in my opinion

    1) Group based, it is a multiplayer game... should be obvious but this is my #1 complaint about the direction of the genre.

    2) Unbeatable, meaning I can play for about 10,000+ hrs at release and not finish it. I feel a mmo should be never ending it is the difference between a console and mmo game. I do not want to buy a mmo and be at cap with all my gear in 2 months. MMO with 300hrs of content no thanks.

    3) Instanced only PvP, World/open pvp destroys the community and ganking pisses everyone off

    4) Content for all player types. Content for those who can play 4-5hrs a day and content for those who only have 30mins before work.

    5) Unique content, most the mmo players have played a mmo before most do not want the mmo they already played with a new coat of paint.

    6) Engaging, fun group focused battle system and gathering/crafting mechanics which are not click 1 button and you are done.

    7) Story line, A good story line is key for any RPG... too many mmo's story are getting pushed aside for gimics and ease of leveling though.

    8) A feeling of accomplishment, I want to feel like all my work leveling paid off, getting that gear I been working on getting means something. The game saying I accomplished something means nothing to me, I need to actually feel it.

    9) Guild and large group activities. Building a strong guild has been a major accomplishment in my eyes as much as getting an epic piece of gear. Some smaller group stuff is fine but there needs to be guild/large group content as well.

    10) A vibrant world, the world needs to feel alive draw you into it.

    emphasis skill de-emphasis on level.
Easily accessible by multiple platforms.(computer, phone, game console, portable console)
