Very much appreciated, thank you ALL for the help. Especially Mugen_Vtec for setting the price ranges. Writing all this information down and learning a bit more about computers while I'm at it. Had no idea what a processor or even a motherboard was, and apparently I have shitty ones (at the time when I bought this computer in 2009 I thought I had like the BEST computer). I guess I can't "upgrade" (don't even know how you even upgrade) and I have to buy actual new parts for everything. Though all of this is very confusing and I'm not sure what the difference between a Pentium (R) thing that I have and the intel 5 you guys are recommending.

I'd like to play FF with the best graphics possible but currently I'm at 15-30 FPS since I started. (Lowest for crowded cities/sanctuaries/fates). I want a computer that can run FF well. Ok, you guys are a great help, but frankly if he's not good with computers, do you really think that you should be suggesting he build one from scratch? There's a lot that can go wrong, components can DOA and he might not have a clue and spend more money and frustration going that route, I don't know you but if you're not good with this kind of thing, it's best to avoid it or start small with easy to replace components. If there's a good reputable computer service store or custom builder around that will build the computer for you, that's the best bet.

Otherwise, my suggestion, if budget is not an issue is shop around on sites like NewEgg, Microcenter, TigerDirect, etc and focus on computers that are spec'd for gaming. NewEgg is nice because you can put in what you want to do, and how much you want to spend in range of money, and then it will let you see what other people have said about the machine.

You could also go with a custom build from the big gaming rig makers out there, Alienware (which is owned by Dell), Dell themselves, iBuyPower, CyberPower, Velocity Micro, etc.

Things to look for - type of graphics card is key, so look for the best bang on whichever builds you get, DDR5, 2GB at minimum. The graphics card is also generally easy to upgrade, assuming the power supply is adequate to support it.
RAM is the easiest thing for a non-tech person to upgrade generally but try and make sure to get 16 GB.
Quad core processor is a must, but more processor cores will help you in the future most likely

As many have said already it's pointless to upgrade your CPU or graphics card on your current, outdated platform. The best thing you can do is to buy a new computer with the latest parts. A mid-end computer should not cost you more than ~700€. A high-end would begin at €1100 and a monster will probably cost you 1700€ and beyond

You should upgrade your hardware.
First, if you had a short budget, change you're graphic card for a current GC like GTX650/650ti.
Second, if you can afford a full upgrade, an Intel i5 update given by DF1985 is great, but 8Gig DDR3 RAM will be more reasonable. You also could switch to an Intel i3 3220 /h77 MB/8Gb RAM DDR3 RAM + GTX 660 that is more affordable but less evolutive, MB et Processor have no overclocking function or only small capability.

I would really not recommend an i3 3220, its not a gaming CPU whatsoever.
I'd go for an i5 4670K, a mobo with the Z87 chipset, 12GB RAM and a GTX 760

I built my own computer a few months ago I didn't know anything about it. But it is really an easy process once you buy the hardware. I heavily recommend newegg.com. Plus there are a lot of resources out there to help someone build a computer. Newegg makes videos and has them on youtube on how to build them and they are very detailed and helpful. Plus building from scratch makes it way easier to upgrade in the future.

That being said I would recommend an i5 processor because in my opinion and research they are great for gaming and are very quick. I like amd videocards so go with one in the 7000 series if you can I run with a 7870 on 1080 and I have 60 FPS. Try for at least 8 gigs of ram. A power supply you want something reliable anything in the $80-$150 would work well, try to get over 600 watts. If you do build one an decide to go with an i5 find a motherboard that has a 1155 socket set.

There is a lot I am missing but hopefully this helps you out.

Yes let's listen to you guys, i'm so glad that you have the money to fully upgrade to i5/i7. Trust me if I had that kind of money I would. I upgrade what I can, when I can and to what I can. If you feel it's wrong tough shit. Oh and in regards to the sound card, maybe you should actually do your research. A dedicated soundcard will reduce the cpu load of sound generation drastically while providing a much better sound quality and rendering than any onboard sound will ever do. I know exactly what I'm talking about and could give a flying fuck if you think I do or not.

What you are saying is HALF true depending on the system specs. If you look at the available brands of sound cards compared to 10 years ago you'll understand why sound cards are GONERS. The CPU's of today are PLENTY MORE than capable of handling sound without even touching 1% utilization on the CPU. I am a moderator on overclockers.com and am an avid desktop / server builder along with overclocking all of my systems.

Also, OP there is no need to spend more than $1000 on a new rig to be able to play this game very very smoothly, as long as you are purchasing NVidia setup with an i5 quad core (haswells just came out) you will never dip in FPS on this game. The reason I say a i5 is because you want to invest the money in a GPU when it comes to gaming and fall back on something less for a CPU. It only takes me a few months to save for a rig and if you have any credit there are plenty of custom builder sites that do financing. I personally recommend IBUYPOWER.com. I had a personal tour with the staff from them at the their facilities and despite what people say about them they are really good at what they do (everyone makes mistakes once in awhile) but their support is great too.

Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5300 @ 2.60GHz
Video: Nvida GeForce 9800 GT
RAM: 4GB, 2 sticks of 2GB, 3.50 at max. Though I don't think I'm running on 3.50 GB ram. Does RAM get depleted over time? My comp seems slower lately.

While I run final fantasy, I open up task manager and go to performance, the "CPU usage" meter isn't very high, it's pretty normal, sometimes spiking up to 80-90% but it mostly stays on 50%, Same thing for the "memory" meter, it rises up while running final fantasy, leaving only 1.3GB of memory usage left. Tho for some reason when I ran the benchmark thing and checked the cpu usage it was like at the limit.

Idk what's going on with my computer but some insight would be nice so I could forward it to the tech place, most likely gonna have to buy a lot of new parts. This comp is about 4 years old (2009). And I don't think JUST buying a new video card, the one recommended on the FF page will help.

Money isn't a problem but I don't think I'm gonna spend a lot on state of the end parts JUST for FF, when I can run games that I usually play a lot like League of Legends on 60 fps perfectly fine.

GPU/VGA: test it with your actual gpu, and please wait the release of the new brand of amd radeon cards. rumos october xD

intel cpu is the best for mmorpgs. i dont test the new brand of amd processors but in the last years was that.

check your power suply if can reach the power i dont know here.

I think that you can run smoothly with that settings staying with your actual gpu at standar desktop settings.
