OP, just enjoy the game like many have said. I play 40-60 hours a week probably, and still find the game fun and always something to do. Its all in your Friends/LS that makes this game fun. Be sure you find a group or multiple groups of friends to share experiences with. Also most important, don't RUSH the game, enjoy every part of it as you gain ranks, fight things etc. The most SP isn't always the most fun way. So don't be the guys who think SP, SP, SP and only SP... Those guys burn out and leave the game. Think about exploring, fighting mobs that are uncommon, going to new areas, experiments and maybe finding new/better ways to do things. There is so much to the game that 80% of the people who quit didn't even do.

My personal opinion on the game: Play it, but don't rush it

I honestly don't do NM's very much... I mostly just enjoy partying with friends and killing mobs for the heck of it. Its more about the community than anything else. But somehow I find myself never without something to do in the game. If you look at grinding as a bad thing, you may not like this game. But If you don't put in work, you'll never progress. Its just like real life, you work towards goals, and when you get near them, you re-assess the goals and make new ones. Always having something to strive for. When you have friends that also share in these goals, it only makes the game that much more fun.

I play FFXI. I know all about grinding. Thing is in that game I have endless goals to reach and things to see, but not in this one. I can grind classes to 50 for what? Make millions of gil for what? Explore what? There's just nothing there right now. In FFXI I grind to 18 to unlock subjobs, 20 to unlock my chocobo/do garrison, 25 to do eco warrior, 30 to unlock my advanced jobs/start CoP, 40 to do missions up to rank 5/get airship access/run BCNM bosses, 50 to break the level cap/do campaign, 60 to get my AF armor/pvp/start zilart missions/get rank 6, 65 to unlock Dynamis/Sky access, and 75 for basically everything else. I can keep going because I know the further I go the more new and exciting shit awaits me. What can I grind for in XIV? To slay a few NMs for a lame reward? Then what? Can't even do leves in Mor Dhona.

MMOs are only great when you have a bunch of friends to play with, but they'll all quit if there's nothing to do in the game.

Well one huge thing you are missing here, is what you described in FFXI was YEARS after release. Not months. All that kind of content will be here eventually and even more I'm sure. This game is worth playing, it is not worth Rushing to end. Maybe in about a year or 2, then you will deem this FFXI like with more content. But until then enjoy what we have keep giving constructive feedback to the forums and be patient. The game gets better with every patch even though I don't agree with some patches, it still makes the game more enjoyable to most.

Then maybe in about a year or two, I will deem this game worthy of recommending to someone, but right now, they'd be better of saving their money. Aion and Rift both released with much more to do. Not saying they're amazing games by any means but XIV released in a buggy, alpha state with no content and while some big improvements have been made, I'd say it's worthy of closed beta status at best at the moment.

Well at the current time, I would tell everyone thinking about trying the game to wait for about another month or so. I wouldn't say this due to the game's quality(which has improved a lot) as much as it's because A LOT of changes that are going to shape the game for potentially the rest of its lifespan are going to be happening soon(introduction of companies, changes to the battle and class system as well as crafting, potential changes to zones).

While chances are that you'll enjoy the game in its current state, there are so many things on the horizon that the game will probably feel very different than it currently does, so you should take that into account.

That being said, there ARE a bunch of things happening right now in game that is apparently leading into these changes(which are apparently apocalyptic in scale), so maybe someone might want to get into that.

Me personally? I'm cool with waiting a bit.
