Alternative way to update client... (error [11006][20641][20643])

Okay just want to say I am running Windows 7 so I have no clue if this will help, just gonna run down the giant list of everything I did that worked before and then finally did (maybe one will work for you)

1. C:\Users\<my name>\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\downloads. Delete the ffxivpatch folder

2. Go to
C:\Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\boot
and replace boot with a working copy. *Boot Link*

3. While there I click back to SquareEnix file, right click Final Fantasy XIV, turn off "read only" (it doesn't apply to folder so it will always appear back on if you check again, check a file inside)

4. Turn off any and all firewall or protection services you are using. I have AVG and Windows Firewall both off.

5. Sacrifice a lamb and offer the blood to your god

6. With Windows 7 (and this is apparently in support as well) click Start, in search type "msconfig". In the general tab, turn off "Load startup items" and restart your computer. You may need to "reconnect" your internet if its wireless.

After trying step 6 it worked for me. Good luck to everyone

no but seriously i already did everything you listed except the lamb part but it still wont work thank god some kind soul put up a torrent which iam downloading right now and it says 10hrs left haaaaa i guess its better than nothing

I see a lot of people who post these issues still have their beta versions installed.

Uninstall it and download the proper version. Might just actually get you somewhere...

The messaging is wrong. I had this error kick back at me this morning, still said (Beta Version), and I've been playing this entire time, from beta4-now.

On PC, Right Click Shortcut -> Run as Admin worked for me, but YMMV.

No known fix for PS3 besides "try it a thousand times and hope to get lucky." Been fighting that error on my PS3 since Beta4.

It doesn't only relate to the PC platform but the consoles as well... It depends on the install software and how it unpacks and installs the files etc.

Common sense says, uninstall any beta EVEN on the consoles, before installing the retail version to avoid any issues/crashes between the codes from the beta and the retail version...

Also, setting your game to run under admin rights doesn't guarantee it'll work for everyone...

Yes there is!

Download Bittorrent, then use the following file https://www.dropbox.com/s/vvem35ww12b1ic0/ff14.torrent, Then choose to download where your SquireEnix folder is located, don't choose it to download in the folder only where that folder is located, then it will basicly do a hash and see what you are missing, from a 1GB download i probably only downloaded about 100MB using this method

Like I said, I got that error after having been able to play for over a week -- I don't have the beta installed on my PC anymore. It's a typo in the error messaging, at this point.

I also said that Run as Admin for for /me/ but, your mileage may vary. Which means, no, it doesn't guarantee it'll work for everyone.

Either way, SE needs to have some sort of better knowledgebase for these errors -- not even their support staff knows WTF these mean.

I Just wanted to say thanks for posting this! My buddy just bought the game and had been having trouble downloading the first major patch. His internet is really bad due to living out in the country and he kept getting short disconnects that would interrupt the first file. Torrent did the trick, though!
