No, but if it was released now it would probably catch huge criticism for being slow and clunky, especially after people experienced FFXII and FFXIII.
EDIT: Anyways, this is pointless arguing. FFXIV needs a new battle system either way and FFXI's battle system wouldn't work very well.

Hey if there's a niche it could catch on. Just look at Megaman 9.No, but if it was released now it would probably catch huge criticism for being slow and clunky, especially after people experienced FFXII and FFXIII.
EDIT: Anyways, this is pointless arguing. FFXIV needs a new battle system either way and FFXI's battle system wouldn't work very well.
While I really enjoy FFXI's battle system I will agree that copying it isn't the way to go for FFXIV. They SHOULD learn from it, but I already have an FFXI account for that stuff and would like something new (and just as good) from FFXIV.
I didn't hate FFXI's battle system it was fine for me but I would much prefer FFXIII's even with the same UI layout for selecting attacks, skills, spells and abilities which was basically an updated/flashier version of FFXI's. It even had an auto attack button and a stamina bar which worked great.
FFXIII all the way ^^
To be honest I think we should have a unique battle system. This is 14 not 11 after all. If you want to play 11 go play 11 thats my own opinion. Of course I've never tried 11's battle system nor played it so yeah.
I'm not a troll I'm just the voice of truth :P
i hope they create something new, inspiring, a fun fast battlesystem that still requires reaction and not just stupid spamming (especially the support classes/healers).
But unless the mobs, mobattacks, jobs etc. are not fixed and changed i cant say what would fit in the current game atm.
I just hope its not goin to get to be like aion-spam-button war without tactics (even though aion fights were still more fun and varied then ffxiv fights currently are.. which is really sad).
We'll see...
By the time other games use dx15 they might have the basics covered![]()
I just want to point out faster =/= better. Final fantasy's staple has always been slow tactical fighting(ffxiii aside).
Not saying XI's battle system is right but don't just assume that because its faster its better. In fact, if its faster it is more likely to just be a spam fest like it is now.
its a spam fest now because you fight weak stuff, that you can kill with auto attack, when fighting hard enemies chooising the timing of your attacks is very important for survival, well for melees anyway, ranged classes can just nuke at will
personally I want to see TACTICS and no DELAY when I use a skill, this certainly is a big problem from using tactics (basic tactics, bc ffxiv doesn't have any good tactics) and like Rhianu said, frustrating.
