Just dropping my two-cents. Ever since I got a few pieces of level 50 gear I have been at a net loss from even "clean" dungeon runs when considering repair costs.

Will not let this thread die bump!

The point, which you clearly and completely missed, is that gil itself is not useful at all. It is only when we can use it as a means of exchange that it is something to be sought after. And, if we ALL just farmed gil all day long, there would be nothing to purchase with that gil. What drives an economy is PRODUCTIONIt's hilariously obvious who knows basic economic principles and who doesn't when reading this thread.
For you perhaps, but I certainly would not dictate to others what and how they should enjoy this game.
Yea OK, not even remotely close. Go play Eve if you want to see how far a MMO economy can go, this is child's play in comparison.
of things. Not the inflation or deflation of the money supply. I never played Eve, I've heard good things about it, but it isn't really the same kind of MMO WoW or FFXIV is. Non applicable comparison.
You earn gil in this game by providing for the needs and wants of others. That's how an economy is supposed to be. It's that simple.
Not true. You can vendor trash fish for profit if you fish at a high level area with a lure. It just takes hours to make 1-2k that way. Assuming you have to repair your gear, it's probably something like 600-800 gil every hour and a half, since you can't use lures for sky/dunefishing. Could probably look around and try to find better fish to catch and sell, but it's pretty moot.
What? And you completely missed the point that just to play this game at all requires GIL!!! At the VERY minimum you are required to repair your gear and travel to and from La Noscea. This is assuming you don't ever use the AH and RUN everywhere.
And to all those people who say "well if we have deflation then prices must go down" wow, great observation, except repair, teleport and transport costs are FIXED!
How... are... people not getting this... so confounding.
This is interesting. What sells well for seals to a vendor?Net Gil In to the system must equal Net Gil out of the system, or the system will become bankrupt.
There are many ways for Gil to leave the system (money sinks). Transport fees, taxes, buying items from NPCs.
There are only a few ways for Gil to enter the system (Quest Rewards, drops, selling to NPCs).
Over time, quest rewards diminish. Sales to an NPC are less than purchases form the NPC. Therefore, in time, all money will be gone.
Except! New players will come in (and bring gil from quests with them), but the rate of new players must equal or exceed the rate at which players leave.
Except! You can get a lot of 'gil' from Seals... This may be the new way to introduce money into the economy:
Endless supply of Seals -> Convert to Goods -> Sell to NPC -> Gil!
(not necessarily a good way, but a way none-the-less).
Proper Economy takes time, it isn't something that happens overnight. Should have seen EVE Online's Economy when I started back in 05.... now it is a real world economy.
As for making money, go grind, sell minions that you get... thats always fun. There isnt alot you need cash for in this game anyway. Most everything that you use can be made.
Ran AK today 20 times on SCH after i was done i had enough those money items you can sell to take home 32.5k for the day and only repaired my gear once. out of all those runs. You can make plenty of money
Wtf? Are you serious? To vendors? This thread needs to die if thats the case.
Considering the bronze pieces drop in AK are worth 100g per turn in. I am sure you brought home 325 pieces back from said dungeon.
Seems legit.
