What about the fact that the SMN's pets look completely uninspiring. As a comparison, consider FFXI's SMN pets. The artwork for FFXI's SMN pets is far superior to the ones in FFXIV. When I saw one in FFXI for the first time I thought "Wow! I can't WAIT to play SMN!". Seeing FFXIV's SMN pets for the first time did not inspire me to play SMN at all.

Missing the point of the topic Rainsford its not about playing the class or rotations or dps we are annoyed on how the class is designed. We are got a dot class instead of a pet class we are not about the summons we are about casting dots and the pets are the side show of the class.

the aesthetic problem is a low priority problem compared to the rest.

i agree with this to an extent. if they remove the debuff limit, don't touch our damage but increase pet damage to 150+ potency per skill, lower the damage of enkindle to 150 potency and give it a 15 second cooldown, give the class a trait after 40 that makes sustain remove a debuff every tick and further reduce the amount of damage our pets take from aoes - this would be another good direction for the class.

it wasn't polished at launch. warlocks were soulstone+imp buff bots because of the debuff limit - a 9 year old mistake square made in 2013. hunters would blow all their mana, dps'ng for about a minute straight, feign death and then drink for 3-4 minutes during c'thun. hybrids weren't actually hybrids, being locked into healing roles exclusively. the disparity between horde and alliance in raiding (blessing of salvation vs. windfury totem) meant that due to threat ceilings alliance had an easier time progressing through content. if there were more than one druid i a 40 man - and this rarely happened - and you weren't the one allowed to cast regrowth and rejuve, then you were a healing touch rank 4 spammer and innervate bot and nothing more.

The issue isn't that Summoner is weak. Summoner's DPS is fine/good if played properly. It's the concept of the *job* and the playstyle that is completely wrong.

There's nothing wrong with Arcanist. It's cool. But the thing is, Summoner is just a minor upgrade to Arcanist, and really has very little to do with "summoner." The current summoner should be a completely different job name with a few minor tweaks, and then there should be an ACTUAL summoner that IS a summoner.

This is completely irrelevant to the topic and even my post. I was simply stating that the CURRENT game of WoW is very polished and that is what they draw inspiration from, not its horrible, horrible launch.

The points we are trying to make is that we want a pet class that focuses on pets. What we got was a warlock, DoT class with shitty(and ugly) pets that don't matter. In some cases actually messes things up(Ifrit stun, which is why everyone uses Garuda). The class functions as a class, no one is arguing that. It can do dps and even has a subpar heal it can toss out in an emergency and they were nice to give it battle rez and a shield. The fact is, the way it goes about dmg is not how we expected or wanted. It goes against everything SMN has always been in the past in FF universes. It doesn't break the game, it breaks our hearts.

Just wanted to agree with OP! It makes it even more pathetic that we HAVE to use Spur and Rouse in order to make Enkindle do decent dmg, and even then, I've seen BLMs do more dmg with Fire III >_> Enkindle of all abilities was and has Always been a move that is like zomg! huge dmg inc!!! instead we get an ability that should had been our pets 30-60cd specialy ability, at least dmg wise >_>

This topic is so true that its sad. I'm lv45 SCH, the only reason that did my SMN quests was for a soloing purpose only. This job is just useless in my opinion, and the job equips are ugly aswell .-.

This job wasn't available to test at all. We are basically testing it in the live game. Posts like this would really be great if you could also offer specific suggestions on how fix/change things. Not just general suggestions like "make our pets stronger" but give specific ideas like "increase pet damage by 10% and give each pet a special buff/ability (Ifrit gives a damage buff, Garuda gives __, etc.)" I can't really offer anything myself since I haven't gotten to 50 yet.

I don't know if developers will actually be looking at the English forums, but if they are, I think that they will be receptive to specific suggestions considering Summoner and Scholar were not able to be tested during the test weekends.
