Wow... I could've been running around in my underwear nuking NMs this whole time

Defence is still calculated quite largely.
Anywho
low rank http://viion.co.uk/upload/files/loweapon.jpg
high rank http://viion.co.uk/upload/files/highweapon.jpg
the answer is probably a very simple one, and it was like this in ffxi, basicaly your attack is the ability to overcome your opponents defense. not your damage, so there is no difference when i use an attack with 999 attack or an attack with 700 attack if i need only 500 attack to overcome the monsters defense.
this basically how it worked in FF i could boost to 999 attack, ill prolly do the same damage as when i boosted to 500. different monsters also have different defenses.
NMs most likely have a defense value and then a damage reduction value, much like a thaum while casting, thier gear is there defense, and their damage reduction while casting is 25% or whatever it is now.
most likely your strength effects your max damage, but only is effective to some specific number which is probably way lower than 120 that most people have. Try it with 1 strength and see what effect that has. if you want to see if it has no value you need to do more thorough tests. try it with a lvl 1 bow also perform the same experiments on monsters where you notice your damage drop.
also note, in ffxi your str effected your max damage, and your attack, so the fact that everyone is running around with 120+ strength probably also has an effect.
testing on aldagoats is a bad test since they tend to have low defense and high hp, try a similar level crab or preferably one higher level, and see if weathered gives you the same values.

So with a low rank weapon you range from 160-190 but with a high rank weapon you range from 170-180Defence is still calculated quite largely.

I'd almost take the Low Rank weapon over the other.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
Two 10 shot screenshots hardly proves/disproves anything regarding what the OP said, especially since his testing samples are most likely 100 times larger than yours. It is also much easier to test this reliably on NMs because they stay at the same level. Can you show that both aldgoats were both the same exact level, since they usually vary when distributed in a zone?Defence is still calculated quite largely.

Gonna take 1-2 people over to Uraeus after the CAPS/BOLTS game is over and I will parse a full fight with Crabby.

Look at the top thats where I have HP, I know its hard to see but I frapped it. Cant really take another screenie since they're dead, or I'll go retest it. I knew this would happen as I did extensive testing on conj. Also mob means nothing, i fought something I knew I'd do good dmg and i'd be able to hit.

You will see for yourself when you test it anyway.

there is a reason people have been saying since day 1 don't waste your time on higher ranked arrows. i thought the bow mattered though.
even if they are even reasonably close i had 2 archers from my old ls do a shoot off on the sphene doblyns south of broken water. one had the high end arrows and the other used weathered and they both got a mob each and tested them side by side on 10 straight mobs. they would either drop on the same shot number or 1 difference at most. if that 40K+ for a stack of arrows saves one shot off a mob then that is a 40k i'll spend on 300 gil a stack of weathered and use the rest for other things.
