I do not know. When doing Class quests for crafting/gathering classes it only counts it if you have the correct quality status, so HQ may not work, but then for tradecraft leves, you can use HQ items as turn ins. But with the relic quest, you actually lose the melded weapon as it gets 'absorbed' so to speak into the creation of the relic weapon. Making/buying a HQ weapon would probably only add an unessesary expense to something that the end result will be the same. Melding is very different to 1.0, so HQing doesn't effect melding success.

The latter parts of the new quests seems annoying with the completing with X job and buying tombstones.
Very much so. But then there are those people who actually went through and completed the relic quest fully in 1.0. They kind of have both sides of it. They have the frustration that what they went through is now so easy, but also the pride in that they were able to accomplish it when it was a lot ... lot .... lot harder.

And if anyone new is wondering HERE is the guide to making a relic in 1.0. Be thankful you don't have spend millions of gill just on materia and have dozens of failed melds that lost you all the materia and the item (took me 8 melds and something like 25million), you don't have to train like mad to get 17 minute perfect clears of dungeons, you don't have to spiritbond and do a difficult faction leve with a useless weapon with close to no stats at all, and you don't have to learn how to play dragoon from scratch just to clear Ifrit Extreme. Don't get me wrong, it was fun to be challenged in such a way, but boy do we have it easy now in comparison.

Harder? or more like more boring and tedious?. Doing Hamlets was not hard just boring, and the drop rate horrible. Spiritbonding the Unfinished while solo? was it hard? nope, just and incredible boring time sink.

I like what they did with Relic, they stripped the obvious timesinks that did not require skill, but lots of free time and luck, and replaced them with Fun Content that do require skill to do it.
