The MMO genre today is as big a community as gaming can get. We have millions and millions of people that are involved in MMO's and they clearly have sales numbers. They knew very well just like a half wit would know, that this game was an extremely awaited launch. They knew very well what kinds of numbers they were going to have on launch, and instead of investing the money on their hardware, they went with it anyway. I hope people aren't actually stupid enough to let the wool be pulled over their eyes with stuff like this... Yes they knew... Yes they launched anyways... And now, yes they are dealing with the repercussions of this decision. Hopefully the Wednesday maintenance will include a complete hardware overhaul, and we will all be happy, but we will see. I myself have also been a part of a large number of launches. Yes, some have been bad, even horrid. But with a big name company like SE, we should have seen a very smooth one in comparison. The whole, "This is a launch" argument is also ass-a-nine. They are having problems which shouldn't exist, because of the opposite of the response you mentioned. They knew exactly the influx they would have, and didn't put the hardware in place to maintain it. It's not in game bugs, its not gameplay issues at all... It's hardware, which should be the last of the problems since we are in 2013 and servers are crazy advanced compared to even five years ago. Rant over, sorry to waste all your time.
Just to play devil's advocate...
If they knew in advance about all the issues you claim, what would be the purpose of not preparing for it while they did have time? What would have been the chain of reasoning that led them to make a decision they knew would sabotage a smooth launch?
