Just imagine all the lost money
There are also the people who are sick and tired of folks saying "this happens every time". It actually does NOT happen like this every time. This is the worst launch of any MMORPG in over the past decade.Yes it sucks and no one is happy with it but you have two types of people. People who are whiney and entitled and people who understand this happens with every MMO launch and a little patience goes a long way. Come tomorrow there should be a fix to the issue and everyone can put their boxes of Kleenex away.
1. Never before have you had this many maintenance windows occur in the first week without anything being resolved.
2. Never before have entire regions been locked down (including all servers) as "cannot create new chars" or "cannot log into world" for extended periods of time (as in more than a few hours; but in this case it's been days and/or weeks for some players).
3. Never before has a server mechanic (handing off instanced content to different servers) prevented complete class/dungeon progression for hundreds of thousands of players.
4. Never before have you had a AAA MMORPG that did not use an AFK boot function as a core server management protocol to help resolve congestion issues.
5. Never before have there been such extensive issues with service accounts, needing to use a PROMO code to get a PREORDER code to get a REGISTRATION code, using three different service websites to register, etc.
Etc.
Yes, all MMORPG launches are rough. There are bugs, there is server congestion, etc. But I've never seen a AAA P2P MMORPG launch and and have folks unable to even get into the game for the first week, let alone first 10-14 days. I'll be shocked if this week's maintenance outage resolves the majority of the server issues. New servers aren't the answer.
well if their 1.0 sucks and nobody played of course nobody expected this much response
really? never? clearly you havent been in this world longer than i am XD
Going on four days since I was last able to get past the loading screen. No, not all launches are this bad and people shouldn't just accept bad launches as par for the course. The only reason they're so acceptable to so many people now is because we've come to expect this kind of treatment with every MMO launch and all the development houses have come to expect us to expect said treatment. Why change something when the people who you're abusing just take it and even defend your actions? Personally, I'll be getting my money back if at all possible and waiting for some time before I even consider returning.
I understand the job of launching and running an MMO isn't easy by any stretch, but there should be some kind of minimum standard to which these developers are held, shouldn't there? Like maybe, your game is playable by the majority of your regional consumer base at least half of the time?
again they said they didnt expect this, cant you leave it at that??Going on four days since I was last able to get past the loading screen. and yep not all launches are this bad, but there were worse and there were the worst where i couldnt log in for 1 month straight because the server shut down
and yes i kinda expect this kinda treatment because judging from experience yes launches are the point where i have to just watch other people play and i wait for several weeks for it to dwindle down
the only differences between the 2 factions right now is that we, the ones who are patiently waiting, want to wait and understand that this is human error AND they acknowledged it and is trying to fix this, and you, the ones who nag nag nag nag nag nag nag and nag, dont want to wait and dont understand how hard it is, and i quote, to launch a game this big

You were at the Everquest 2 launch? When SOE powered on the servers they went up and down like children on pogo sticks, and were often down for 8+ hours every day of the week. It would start out as a couple hours to fix a critical flaw or exploit and end up taking the entire day. I think those damn griffons in the large zones outside the main cities(Antonica, Commonlands) are still broken in some way. We used to joke the game should have been named Extended Maintenance 2. Lets not also forget that the #&@!ing zones weren't even finished when the game launched. We took the quest and the boat to Everfrost(F*** you, Dreadwake) only to have it crash repeatedly because SOE wasn't ready for players to reach it yet, same as Feerrott, unfinished so they purposely bugged the quests to get there. Also, we all remember the Froglok debacle, we were told to search Feerrott for clues to unlock the frog race. We learned later the Froglok were not expected to be finished until months after launch. That launch will always be the one I remember as the worst. FFXIV servers are hitting capacity but they are not offline more than online. I'm not thrilled about not being logged in but the times I have played it seemed stable.
This isn't just the guy at Whataburger (fast food chain for those who don't know) forgetting you like mayo instead of mustard. See, that's human error. This is a multi-billion dollar corporation messing up. Big time. SE is not a company that has never launched a game either. That's probably the only way I would be forgiving. If this was some little three man team company I would be quite patient and understanding.again they said they didnt expect this, cant you leave it at that??
