Diplomacy is awesome as is diffusing a hostile situation. As Yoshida (who has a greater IQ than you) has stated, kicking AFK players would only have a placebo effect. You think kicking the small amount of AFK people will magically let the masses log in the game then you are really living in a fantasy world aren't you.

First off it's not a small amount of players afking. Looking in the main cities around the Main crystal just stand there and observe the movement. You have like 25-50 people there alone not moving for hours. Not to mention the number of people hiding AFKing out in the fields. Well they are fixing this soon. The people here that don't want the restart are the ones leaving their character in game for 5-9 hours while they go to work and stuff.
AFK kicking will eventually have to be implemented regardless. Increasing server capacity an extra few thousand players, will help, but people will still /afk as more accounts are created to avoid being in a queue or locked out to future 1017 (full server) errors.Diplomacy is awesome as is diffusing a hostile situation. There's a reason afk kicking is available in every mmo and that's to avoid this kind of situation. I don't know where you're getting a "small amount" (of people) from, it looks like a large portion of the population has learned to stay logged in as there are no consequences for doing so. Everyone in-game the last few days were recommending it in chat and I'm sure guilds are doing the same.
No they didn't see it coming lets think for a second here they had 1.0 which was the single worst game ever and it turned alot of people away. They decided to re make the game and thought it wasn't going to get no where near as much attention that it did because of 1.0 so they made an guess of exactly how many people would be playing. During Alpha and Beta test 1-2 there were a very small percentage of players then when beta phase 3 came the ps3 players and some more pc players got in i think that was the true test of their population expectations. During phase 3 which lasted what a month? There were no login issues at all even when we stress tested the servers which lasted what a week or two near the end of phase 3? So because of that the devs became very certain that the amount of players that were in phase 3 was going to be the amount of players they had at launch. But then the phase 4 started and thats when everything went wrong and i bet the devs kind of wished they didnt advertise the game as much as they did because swarms and swarms of people came in and ever since then they've been having problems with the servers .you had enough time for stress testing, didnt you saw these things coming?
Ive been saying this since EA. Shut the servers down. Stop subs, and re open them when they think they can handle the load.
Anyone else wonder what Moogle tastes like?
Some basic math for you with made up numbers in regards to servers/auto disconnects/server stress:
Let's say FFXIV servers cap at 20k, now you have 5k 24/7 AFKers whom only play from 8AM-5PM and stay AFK'd from 5PM till 8AM the next morning.
You now have a group of 5k "normal" players whom play from 5PM-11PM, these players are unable to do so or do so based off other "normal" players however this is highly unlikely.
An auto-disconnect setting would force the 24/7 AFKers to release all 5k of their slots upon them logging out at 5PM thereby opening 5k slots to the "normal" group of 5k players whom play from 5PM-11PM. Using this example the 20K player cap on the FFXIV server would not be overloaded as though out the entire 24 hour window each slot on the server is being used and recycled by more than one player whom stays AFK for over 10 hours.
Surely if you followed me with this clearly made up example forcing AFK players out of the game is an excellent solution to keep server population and overload in check. At no point in time is it logical or even cost effective to allow server resources go to waste on a user whom is not using them while denying the same resources to a user whom will at that exact given time.
There are three solutions to the current server problems within FFXIV:
1- Expand Server Cap
2- Force Auto-Disconnection after 30/45 minutes
3- Create more dedicated Lobby/World servers/allow free transfers for 60 days to newly created World servers
Creating more World servers without increasing the cap nor adding an Auto-Disconnection feature will not resolve the problem but create a temporary fix, as the exact same problem will start on the newly created servers.
If I'm mistaken I have only read of Square creating new servers, I do not recall offering free transfers as of yet or implementing a forced AFK disconnection.
