If they would just kick afk player, that alone would reduce the load on the login server by 50-70%. No more hammering loggin trying to get a spot, instead you're in after 1-2 attempts.
As stated before, as soon as they start kicking AFK people, those that want to afk will jsut set-up simple click/move macros to defeat this.
Seeing as even my $25 mouse has a simple macro button on it, more people with do this then you think. Even more so with 1017 being so prevalent.
15 min is far to short a timer - and would just cause more traffic on the log server anyway.
That's not entirely true. Most MMO's now have AFK countermeasures in place that are a bit more advanced that that. Instead of just moving you actually have to play the game to not get kicked. Meaning other things have to happen like menu's opening and closing, mutli-direction movement, chatting, doing quests, etc... Simply making a macro to move you or turning auto-run on won't work with that kind of system.
Everything you just said can be handled using a simple macro. In-game macro to send a /fc, /shout, /tell message, place that macro button on the action bar, simple macro to press that action bar macro. You can open close logs by dragging the icon to the action bar as well. Lots of ways to do it - and I don't mean/want to argue, just saying the AFK timer is a bad idea. That's not entirely true. Either way, SE just needs to fix the issue.
Can you blame people for afking? They all go threw what we have to to get into the game. Why would you want to go through that each time you log in? SE has created this problem and other players have to deal with it. I for one am never logging out again. The people who stay logged in are having a great time and not bitching on the forums all day long.
