Thanks for the numbers. But based on this info, I have to say tanking is severely broken in some situations. I have noticed in things like the adds that spawn in the middle of the boss fights in Castrum Meridanum I just cannot get them off the healers before they die. This explains why. It's ok when I get a head start, but when adds spawn into the thick of battle with heals and such flying all over the place as soon as they spawn it can be impossible. We seriously need some taunts or something to handle these situations.

And all those BLMs that don't understand why they got the spell sleep and that they have single target spells....

    Amnesia?

    Forgotten?
As MMO's go, I'm pretty new. I chose to be a tank, a Marauder in fact. Apparently, tanks are not on anybody's favorites list...
Question to all you MMO Gods... how do (we -- because evidently I'm not alone in this) -- get to be GOOD at tanking WITHOUT being a thorn in your side and the bain of your existence? And the butt of all your critical and demeaning comments? (Do you seriously think we join these games and we select our class, to become experts at failing badly ???)
If you have any answers beyond criticism, I'm sure we would all be all ears. For me, I want to tank. And I want to be an awesome tank. I always thought practice makes perfect. So what are the alternatives, if gaining that experience and becoming comfortable and straight on task with my chosen character/class is such a problem for my fellow players?
Share the wealth...how did you get so good
    ???

A distinction should be made that unfortunately there are players (not just tanks) that don't take to critique of any sort, view it purely as insult. Instead of taking comments to heart. There are two sides as always. Some players are just going to be bad at their role simply due to their own action or inaction. I hope that others, like myself, if given advice or a critique will take it to heart.

I'm fortunate that I have a group of friends I play with that are willing to give me a shot, and because of it I feel I have improved. I know I'm still low level in comparison to some of the other tanks up here but I have yet to get a complaint. I've wiped, I've owned up to my mistakes, and I talked with my party members to see what I did and learn from it.

A good tank comes from a good party. A good party communicates with each other and is willing to learn and try things. With that you'll have a good tank, a good healer, and DPS. A good run isn't done by just one player in one class.

Tanking in this game is extraordinarily easy, despite the shoddy baseline engine and choppy gameplay. I however have had times where mobs behave extremely annoyingly, especially if the mob moves an extremely long distance away from you despite you having threat, and in many cases a Provoke + Shield Lob being wasted because of how long mobs take to get back to you.

Notwithstanding, Provoke on a 40 second CD is absolute garbage for those who struggle with tanking, or even tanking in general.

Threads like this are probably why there are a lack of tanks. Who would want to tank for people like the OP?

It's a tough job; I try to remember that before I throw stones. That said, I'm thinking about giving tank a whirl myself. I searched, searched, and searched for a party as a DD/DPS tonight. Doing so wasted an hour of my life, and I still ended up doing it with friends. I don't want to have to wait like that anymore, but the tanking job does scare me, because of the many, many complaints.
