More people should be pushing for the booting of afk players. This would reduce quite a bit of load, increase chances of actual players getting in, and make the game more engaging (nothing fun about logging in, only to find half the players are afk and there's no groups to join).

    You are incorrect.

False advertising? Really? Hah. You amuse me. They gave me exactly what they advertised, Early Access, some special items for pre-ordering and my Collectors Edition items. Got it all.

Do you know what bugs are? Have you ever programmed anything as large scale as an MMO? You can never test for every eventuality. Everyone has different machines, different software. Different brains. A lot of the account issues came from simple misunderstanding of where to put your codes. Some were from third party retailers.
The only way to find out if your title is launch ready, is to Launch it. And Launch they did. Errors, bugs and capacity issues surfaced. You cant test what would happen to the servers with 200k+ concurrent connections from IP's from around the world without letting it out into the real world.

I remember many MMO launches that vastly overestimated their popularity. 3 games did this, in recent memory. Tera, SWTOR and Rift. They each started with a high number of servers. Far more than they could ever hope to populate. The result was empty worlds, worlds with barely 100 players in them. Dead worlds, in other words.

Ever heard the saying, "Measure twice cut once"? It applies here. They underestimated, on purpose, the popularity of the game, and with good reason, given the history of the title. The result is that we have 25 servers that are full to bursting with players. Hyperion feels incredibly alive to me when I'm able to log in. There are always players around me, i always see people chatting in /shout. For a launch week MMO, thats amazing. Of course, the downside to this is obvious, we have locked out players.
But I'd rather that than see what happened to Tera, they went form 10 dead servers to 3 reasonably populated ones. Its back up now, but it took them years to recover, aswell as a major overhaul to the business model.
They're installing more servers, form next week on, we shouldn't have any more log in issues. I, for one, am willing to give them the time and space they need to fix it.

Well but it's not like SE is an indie company that's never ran an MMO before. . . In addition someone in SE knew exactly how many pre-orders were sold, how popular the franchise is, how many unique players were in beta, etc . . . The fact that they didn't plan for this is really more wishful thinking. In a company the size of SE, it's more likely they needed the infusion of revenue from the pre-orders (which generally aren't billed until release) to help fund infrastructure. Every major MMO has done this, but we (the gamers) just let it go if the game is good.

jeez, you do realize that coming up with a worse case scenario is based on planning and research? where in the world has there been an MMO launch that has had MILLIONS of people show up on early access or even launch day? There has been none, not even wow. So your worse case scenerios of millions at launch is based off something that has never happened before! That kind of over planning is also poor planning, I assumed that would have been obvious to most of us!

This is for all of the complainers and those who feel greatly entitled to whatever they want...in spite of reality.

this game has a HUGE over response that was NEVER anticpated by anyone in the game industry ...professional or supporting like me. None of us expected this. It is wonderful but...the internet has limits. It is a finite system. It is like the freeway. If there are more people trying to travel than the system can handle, there are traffic jams. No one sues the State Highway departments for being stuck in traffic. You and we are all STUCK IN TRAFFIC. so please just do other things and wait like the rest of us. I cant play the game either because i am waiting for the physical game. I am trying to help new players and clam down angry ones like you all. Lets just take it easy and be nice.

Please stop trying to bully Square Enix..they created a GAME to play and enjoy. You are NOT guaranteed any rights or privledges other than the right to buy and play the game. If there are problems in the delivery of an online game they will make compensation such as free time to play. Any MMO provider may do that. But it is rude and very unkind to make threats and talk about lawsuits when we are here to have fun and to enjoy a shared experience. There are far too many such silly complaints in our worlds as it is by overly selfish people.

all you did was quote from the eula, if what I say is true where the eula is not legally binding in some countries than what you quoted does not matter!

In the end I agree that if someone tried to sue they would have a hard time justifying it, my point is simply the fact that you signed a EULA does not mean you signed your rights away. You always have a course of action to protect yourself from certain coporation activities whether it be illegal or justifiable!
