I just tweaked my original message for a bit more clarity. I emailed all the reporters and editors of Kotaku.

Could Final Fantasy XIV fail again due to Square Enix's poor customer service?

After waiting on hold, via telephone, for 5 hours on Thursday (to a non toll-free number) I thought my collector's edition account would be placed onto my correct service account. You see, SE made one of the most complicated code redemption sites I’ve ever encountered. Due to poor communication and wording, there are many players who accidentally created two service accounts, so I know I’m not alone. There is a 400+ page thread about this on the official Final Fantasy XIV forums.

Square Enix has remained silent, refusing to comment upon the huge disaster that is Square Enix customer service. Personally, I've waited for a total of 8 hours on hold on the telephone over two days. After 8 attempts to get into a live web chat with customer service, each time I reach #1 in the queue, I'm told there is no one to help me. I've sent in numerous tickets, each one is closed, without actually fixing my account.

My desire is simple: merge the unwanted second service account with my original account. It should be simple. If they can’t do that, cancel the unwanted second service account and place a new CE code onto account #1. However, I've spent days trying to track down someone at SE to fix this issue and I'm not alone. It is difficult to find the live chat link. When you do find it, there are up to 400 people competing with you to talk to a live human being. The telephone is no better, as customers are faced with busy signals and hours of holding time.

You can find threads here on the official forums: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ervice-account

There is a similar thread on Reddit about these issues: http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen...e_account_now/

Right now, the only way I can see players getting any help from Square Enix (extensions on early access grace time, lessened waits for customer service, etc) is for the press to pick up on the massive issues affecting this game. Hopefully, you can also spread the word, so that out of fear of bad word-of-mouth, Square Enix acts to satisfy paying customers who are being held hostage by a poorly designed code redemption system.
Will Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn be the phoenix that soars above their previous disaster, or go down in flames due to Square Enix’s lack of support to bitter customers who can’t play the failed game they were willing to give one more chance?
Thank you for any assistance you can bring to this matter,
