Sorting by level will do.. not much good at all. As a Legacy player that is a meaningless sort function. And in a few weeks would be meaningless to a lot of new players. The problem with inventory is not gear or weapons as they are quickly sorted out by the armoury chest. The armoury chest idea needs to be expanded to items other than gear. Farmed drops, gathered items, crafted items, consumables, this is where the inventory mess comes from.

    1. Use of Armoury Chest Design for items other than gear

The basic inventory and retainer system needs to be presented in a more visually appealing way. Perhaps use the Armoury Chest design for Inventory and Retainers.

I would really like to permanently set out where different items go. I'd like a tab for branches, a tab for logs, with an icon to the side so I can easily/visually know where everything is.

An added benefit of this should be that the "move items to armoury chest" would now also move farmed drops to the relevant tabs in a click

Over time, the current inventory and retainer system will end up a frustrating confused mess.

    2. Inventory/Retainer Tabs should function like backpacks/satchels in earlier MMOs

We should be able to detach our numbered inventory tabs and numbered retainer tabs freely swapping them around. Say I have 4 tabs on my retainer for crafting but my 4 tabs on my character are full of guild event items like potions and food etc. If I feel like crafting I should be able to swap out my inventory tabs and bring my retainer tabs to my character. That way we can move things as tabs rather than individually. Although I would say more modern MMOs would allow crafting with full access to all storage at the same time like SWTOR
