I can tell you for a fact that if you R0 (disconnect) from FFXIV or crash (which also causes a disconnect), that you are not required to wait 10 minutes before you can log in again. You will get a "character is logged in" error the first time you try to reconnect, but you don't have to wait more than about 2 minutes after that. (It's a fact because it's happened to me on multiple occasions, and has never been different).

If you are having to wait 10 minutes or more, there is something else wrong.
If the game crashes or something server side happens to force you out, (some days certain peoples connections to SE are a bit weak as happens to me a lot) then you won't have to wait very long at all.

However, if your router hangs, or something happens your side to disrupt the internet then you WILL have to wait for around 7-10 minutes before you're able to login again. that's the way it works for me anyway

And in regards to Comcast, I'm going to ask them to replace the stupid modem.
Silver most of the time it isn't the modem, have comcast verify there is no squirrel chew on your drop, no water in it, that all fittings are tight, and that your modem is on a dedicated line off the first split in the house. Also have him verify the send and receive levels at the tap, ground block and modem. Acceptable levels are 0 on receive, 45 on transmit and 37 Signal to Noise Ratio. It can fluctuate a few db based on where on the plant you are but in order to properly calculate what you should be at I would need to know your tap value and how many ports are on it.

Also have him make sure that you have RG6 Quad ran throughout the house, Absolutely no satellite splitters or Radio shack 900mhz or less splitters... the tech will hate you for all this but it is now the industry standard.

I have it both, but i am pleasantly surprised each time i can log back in within 2 minutes. It does often take much longer, i am not spamming login because i'm looking as my husbands monitor to see when my character drops from the game. This also rules out any router or modem issues because then we'd both disconnect from the game. SE needs to make this so when you log in your "ghost" character gets removed from the game, every other MMO i have played adresses this in this way. I have no idea why i sometimes can log back in right away, sometimes 2 minutes and sometimes 10.

I am just curious why it would be different. I'm not calling anyone liars, but I've had both situations happen to me, and there's been no problems. This is why I think it might have more to do with specific connections to certain ISPs rather than an issue on SE's end.

At the very least I know that if you try to log in right after a disconnect, it will trigger your character to log out. I even tested it tonight.

Well server-side crashes are quick relogs because you were actually walking around a game you were no longer even actually in for a good 40 seconds, whereas if it screws up on your end the server's like Bueler...Bueler....Bueler... and you're screaming that you can't log in.
