That's not accurate. If my ISP goes down and I time out of the game, I have to wait 10 minutes or so. Maybe you're having another sort of disconnection. It does. >.>
When I disconnect, all I have to do is try to connect again. This logs the character out. Then you should only have to wait a minute or two before trying to log in again.
The problem comes if you're trying to spam your login. If you do that, it will take much longer.
And yes it is annoying to have to wait 10 minutes.

Actually, it makes more sense that it would be a problem with your ISP than the game. There's no such thing as an "other sort of disconnection".
I can tell you for a fact that if you R0 (disconnect) from FFXIV or crash (which also causes a disconnect), that you are not required to wait 10 minutes before you can log in again. You will get a "character is logged in" error the first time you try to reconnect, but you don't have to wait more than about 2 minutes after that. (It's a fact because it's happened to me on multiple occasions, and has never been different).
If you are having to wait 10 minutes or more, there is something else wrong.

Silver most of the time it isn't the modem, have comcast verify there is no squirrel chew on your drop, no water in it, that all fittings are tight, and that your modem is on a dedicated line off the first split in the house. Also have him verify the send and receive levels at the tap, ground block and modem. Acceptable levels are 0 on receive, 45 on transmit and 37 Signal to Noise Ratio. It can fluctuate a few db based on where on the plant you are but in order to properly calculate what you should be at I would need to know your tap value and how many ports are on it.
Also have him make sure that you have RG6 Quad ran throughout the house, Absolutely no satellite splitters or Radio shack 900mhz or less splitters... the tech will hate you for all this but it is now the industry standard.

Really? Because to be honest every other MMO I have played (over two dozen) logs my character out if I try and log the same character back in. Instead of forcing me into a 10 minute wait.
If you have another character, log in with that character. It will auto log out your DC'd character. Log out of the second character and log back in with your DC'd one. I did it back with FFXI too. It's a pain, but it's faster than waiting 10 minutes. That is if you do have another character. If not, then i dunno *shrugs*

that's never worked for me :-(If you have another character, log in with that character. It will auto log out your DC'd character. Log out of the second character and log back in with your DC'd one. Comcast is a terrible service provider.
Also yeah they should probably increase the disconnect checks.
10 minute lockouts does seem to happen to certain people in the shell over and over. I'm skeptical that they aren't just overestimating their woes and 2 minutes just feels like 10 minutes or they keep spamming login and screwing up the reset of data. If Square causes me to crash I can relog immediately. If I cause the crash it's the standard 2-3 minutes if I just chill for the first minute and not try to relog. I've had every kind of dc I can think of except explicitly pulling the plug and never had to wait 10 minutes. Not even when I accidentally left my game on in one city and was in another and had my cable company reset my modem remotely.
It has to be at least two minutes though. There are too many potential advantages to force-dc'ing and coming back quickly. Game can't distinguish between accidental and forced disconnect, so it has to at least cover the potential chance that you're trying to DC for personal advantage. It sucks, but if you log in quickly you can't get into the party you dc'd from anyway, again because that was an activity that was abused in the past.
I know for sure that it is not 2 minutes for me when I dc. Definitely not 2 minutes. I've gone and made a sandwich, grabbed a drink. came back and still could not log on.
So this is very odd then.
Some people dc for around 2 minutes and some 10 minutes??

Ugh, the ten minute d/c thing is a pain. ;_; And yes, it is ten minutes exactly! lol
Well, that is to say it can be. When my router resets itself I have to wait ten minutes - despite my connection becoming stable again almost instantly - and I sometimes have to wait ten minutes when the game crashes too.
Back when the market wards would often crash - and my ISP was being awfully temperamental even by its woeful standards - ...well, yeah, that wasn't a fun time. :c
I'll have to try that second character trick, though~
( Although a fix would be my preferred option. >_>; )
