Yep true... there is SOME stuff you shouldn't emulate... mostly that of which ranks below you. Wicked powerful ability nonetheless imo, must have for a mage and a tank of any kind... Haven't taken it off since I got it hehe Much like buffs, heals and Raise^^Yeah I don't think it's element specific. Technically you don't assume the target's elemental affinities (it would be pointless to gain earth affinity at a dodore fight because earth points don't protect against earth, water does). You gain their resistance profiles, which like people said is another stat more related to magic defense. That is, you gain whatever the difference between Uraeus and Dodore is. Emulating Dodore is fine because Dodore has higher resistances than you do, but if you could emulate Uraeus at the Dodore fight Dodore'd be doing next to no damage at all. Uraeus has much higher elemental resistances.
I wonder if emulate can make you worse. R50 conj emulating a R30 monkey, then smacking Prince of Pestilence might not be a good idea.
So this will come in handy for bomb ash hunt then.

It works by being broken~
Yeah I would have liked to have been in the dev room when they came up with some of these abilities like punishing barbs, shadowsear, firm conviction, and emulate just to see if anyone said the obvious: that the abilities are inherently abuse-prone, ridiculous, balancing nightmares. The descriptions alone should make you hesitate to implement them. Deals damage in proportion to received damage...these things hit you for 3,000 hit points. Deals damage in proportion to the difference between your and the enemy's HP...these things have 32,000 hp. Gee, do you think that could be a bad id...op there we go R1's already just took down a R90 mob in 5 hits. Nice job, guys. Totally didn't see that coming.
V1 of punishing barbs was so out there that it makes the guy who created it and the guy who approved it look bad if they didn't forsee the impending lunacy.
just also remember when using emulate that you use it on magic heavy mobs. it doesn't matter how op it is against some mobs it does no good against a physical attack.

Punishing Barbs has a damage cap.
Emutlate... Yeah, they didn't cap that. I can take Dodore's rediculously high resistance to ALL magic and just watch him tickle me. (Unless he Shadowsears me xD)
