No such thing as perfect launch.

Why should SE risk hundreds of thousands of dollars especially in their circumstance? Why should they invest in more servers not knowing exactly how many are actually going to stay after the first week?

There has never been an MMO launch in history that did not have server issues in the first week. The most successful of them all, World of Warcraft had server issues that were just as bad.

Now that you all decided you're going to stay because the game is amazing, they will add more servers and spend more on their data centers.

Yep, the first couple weeks always are bad. Once SE looks at the numbers they will quickly implement a solution.

I believe people have been referencing gw2 as to a good launch to a game.

but still I agree with you, people QQ too much. They act like they're lives are ruined and their money stolen, because they can't play a game constantly the week it comes out
and the few days before it did.

and to add, yeah i don't think I've ever played a well-known mmorpg that had a smooth start(never played gw2 btw)

My friends and I think this game is going to be extremely successful for a very long time. It seems like the ARR team got it right. They have a very good understanding of catering to the casuals and hardcore gamers at the same time. This game is like a modern version of FFXI. It's so good.

Why should they risk hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost subs? You can get rid of servers, but you can't always bring in more players. You only make one first impression, and unfortunately they haven't made a good one so far. Don't get me wrong i'm not the type to throw a hissy fit, and quit just because of some errors in early access (and 1 day of actual launch), but i know plenty of people who will, and I can't blame them for it. Their entitled to their opinion like the rest of us. Just wish they were more action and less talk....

You do realize that the servers are likely just VMs on a host, and not bare hardware. There is hardly a cost associated with bringing additional VMs online. If the servers aren't virtualized, then there is one point of failure right there.

    GW2 Launch was flawless.

That said, people shouldn't be putting these lecturing types post up - you're not going to change anyones mind and just create more tension. If you want to make a change make a positive post.

    This ain't it.

You're right that there's no such thing as a perfect launch, but there are a lot of rungs between hot mess and perfect, it would've been nice if they had hit any one of them. Sorry guys, this was bad. That doesn't mean it's not going to get better, but when you guys keep posting threads like this all you do is embarrass yourself.

So true. I don't know what the total per-server player count is for FFXIV, but as a sysadmin, I've been at the helm of many releases that went without a hitch where we were having tens of millions of devices contacting each server cluster daily. Coming out and saying "there is no such thing as a perfect launch" is asinine.

First impressions are important to new customers and clients, any customer service world member or anyone with real money understands this concept. No MMO launch has been perfect but there is a severe and drastic difference between a launch with one or two problems, and a launch with three or four game locking, server crashing inducing problems.
For your sake and mine, you want these people to stay and wouldn't antagonize them for no reason. Why? Again, real world, they are money plain and simple.
More Money = More support = More upgrades = more content.
Less Money = Cut support = Cut upgrades = less content (In 1.0 Case "BOOM")
Sure, they can add more after the fact but that doesn't change the initial image and potential loss of income due to something that -->COULD<-- have been minimal has already taken effect
