You can make one in game with just 4 friends, its part of main quest line once you choose which guild/group you want to associate with in game, once that is done you can make a subgroup/guild of your own in game..

you need to be lvl 25 and have 15k gil, then you need 4 people to sign it and go back to the npc to get the company made
the npcs are right next to the Grand Company npcs
