Good reviews, more sales = better content for us in the future.

That's just optimistic thinking. Take a look at EA. Their games sell hard, yet they just keep throwing more and more half assed content, day-one DLCs and shitty DRM. That somehow still generates a ton of sales, yet the content never improves.

More sales != better content in the future. Hypothetical correlation, unproven causation.

Past research known as FFXI would say otherwise. EA and Square Enix clearly handle their games differently. One constantly makes you pay over and over again for the same game for years and the other makes Final Fantasy.

I also can't believe I resorted to posting here, given the number of likes the second post has received makes me wonder if it was even worth it.

Nah, they're not that different if you look at SE's recent trends of streamlining and caring about graphics over everything else.
