Does the patcher suck for you all too, or is it just me?

Ppl still don't open there ports? i know a few can't due to there ISP not allowing them blah blah but i'm sure a big % of you are allow to and should too SE fix the problem i alway download every patch less then 20min. Don't tell me that we don't need to open the ports this is 2011 SE should have fix this and so on. Or that your not good with pc it's called google and 30min or less of your time to set up. if your too lazy to do it then deal with the slow download and stop complaining because that all you doing right now.

As you can see opening your ports can make you download quick it took me 28mins to download FFXIV patch.

The whole system is ridiculous. Using torrents to ease the loads on the servers is alright. Using exclusively torrents is not, and for a lot of reasons: the difficulty of having to open ports, the heavy load imposed on the connection by the bittorrent protocol, the mandatory use of upload which can be a scare resource to some users and the fact the bittorrent protocol can be blocked or heavily throttled by some ISP/networks.

SE servers should provide the remaining bandwidth needed to cap the user download speed.

And as the current population of the game, it would be really easier for them if they scrapped the whole bittorrent system to use a simple server-based patching system, at least until the game population starts to become consequent and until they have time to engineer a decent solution based on p2p.

A few hours ago, when I first started up the FFXIV Patcher, it was stuck at 0.0% and did not move at all for about 20 minutes. It said my download would take about 8 hours to complete. Now, I am stuck at 58.2% and it is downloading at about 3 kb/s. Remaining time says over 3 hours.

Edit: Port forwarding is still enabled, used to work nicely ever since open beta testing times.

Edit-edit: Now it is at 0 kb/s. This is frustrating. FFXI had a simple patch downloader, why can't FFXIV have the same thing? But of course all the trolls are going to say, "But that will make it into FFXI-2!"

The reason they didnt go for thisIi beleave is because when a patch was first released in FFXI alot of people would get server timeouts because SE didnt have the throughput for everyone who plays to download the patch at the same time. Becaise of this for alot of people it could take anywhere between 5-10hrs for a patch.

I personnaly had this problem everytime I tried to download the patch as soon as it was live the only option was to sit at my PC to retry all the time or wait 1-2 days to download it.

Because more throughput can cost alot of money they probably looked at the options and they thought the torrent option was easiest and cheapest to implement.

Yea its sucks, SE need a couple direct download servers, or even partner with someone to distribute the patch digitally.

Zenaku its more than just port issues, the main problem with the program is that once someone completes the download it shuts down and they don't upload anything after that, in essence making torrent worthless.

Like i said there no issue if you open your ports yes i know blah blah "i should not need to open my ports in this dam age" but even opening your ports would help your download speed and also help you out ingame with less D/C issue.

there IS an issue for some people even if you open all your ports. I assure you I've done everything needed to open ports and I still can't get the patch to download updates ever. Maybe if I left it on for several days...

The patch downloader works for me when I open the correct ports on my router, if you're having trouble that's the first thing you should check. Don't blame the patch downloader when you haven't set things up for it to work correctly.
