Problem: Worked before, now crashes when clicking Play.

    I have a Radeon HD 5700 on Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit.

Game worked fine during beta until the last update. Phase 4 I believe.

Now whenever I click Play from the launcher, a black window appears (game window that always appears), then it crashes.

Have tried updating video drivers to latest official, then to latest beta.
Uninstalled video drivers, deleted driver files, then reinstalled drivers.
    Uninstalled virus software.
Uninstalled/reinstalled game (including manually removing files/folders not removed by uninstaller).
    Did all Windows updates.
Tried going to my other PC (which works), loading the game, turning everything to lowest settings, then copying the .CFG file to the non-working game PC.
Also used that method to disable and enable Window mode.
Tried running in various compatibility modes and as administrator.
Disabled sound in game and disabled sound drivers.

    Still crashes.

    Thanks for any advice!

Here are the various errors I get.

    Finally!

I am not the only one having this issue, I have been suffering with this since last night.

I genuinely can't work out what is going on, sometimes it will show the Square Enix logo then crash or black screen then crash.

No idea, what is going on!

We don't even get the logo. Just black screen > crash.
Has worked from alpha-testing 1.0 to beta testing phase 4. Then Phase 4 had some update andhaven't been able to play since.

Another sucky thing is that this forum is so full of complainers about server problems (something EVERY MMO has on opening day, people!) that this thread gets hidden rather quickly. :<

Well I'm borrowing a video card tonight from a friend to at least try to narrow it down even more.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Accoridng to google, this error is caused by a windows update (This forum post was made on the 15th of this month)

According to people who get the Exception code: 0xc0000005 on VARIOUS programs, its caused by a recent windows update... perhaps try removing this windows update this guy posted.

OK, I think this will fix it.
First of all, if your System Restore is working then just use that to go back to before the recent updates, if it's not working then try this.

    1. Disconnect from the internet
    2. Open Control Panel
    3. Open Program & Features
    4. Click "View installed updates" on the left-hand side
    5. Find "Security update for Microsoft Windows (KB2859537)" under the Microsoft Windows section
    6. Uninstall that update and restart you PC (may take a very-VERY long time to configure)
    7. Go to Windows Updates and hide (KB2859537)
    8. Reconnect to the internet
    9. Fix your System Restore feature; You might have to remove a fake C: drive and enable System Restore on the correct Windows drive.

    Thanks for the try.
I didn't have that particular update installed.
In fact, if I'm not mistaken, I haven't used Windows Update for at least a year until this problem came up.

Nor did I have any of the "problem" updates listed in that thread you posted, which include:
    KB 2843638
    KB 2843639
    KB 2859537
    KB 2868846
    KB 2873872
    KB 2876063

As for System Restore, that's one of the FIRST things I disable on any new PC. ;>
In general, I'd rather find the problem and fix/remove it than blindly restore back (which causes its own problems)!

Thanks for trying to help, Unch!

I wonder what would happen if I just removed ALL of the Windows updates and then tried. ha.

or in your case it could be the lack of updates of which is needed to fix some issues in programs, (Example would be framework .net and such)
