Both. The login server can't handle all the login request. Couple that with the fact they've limited the server populations and don't remove afks, and we now have this problem. Right now their only option is rolling restarts of the server to continually boot afk players.
Same. I got on this morning and logged off for 30 minutes and haven't been able to get back on since. Once I get back in, I'm AFK'ing like everyone else when I need to leave.
I think we deserve some sort of official update - it's been a full day with nothing..
They have shitty servers and about half as many as they needed to handle peak hours during launch. The servers kept crashing because people kept trying to log into the game they just paid for, heavens to betsy!!! Their 'solution' was to remove the queue system all together and limit the number of people who can be online at once.
So now when you log in and the server is full it doesn't even try to handle your request and just spits out an error.

Dear SqEnix. The NA launch has been horrendous. I didn't even get a chance to play during the pre-release because of all of the technical issues and the servers going down for Emergency maintenance.
Now I can't get into the game, a game I paid for mind you. There better be some damn good compensation for this mess.
This damn error 1017 is STUPID!!!!
Why do we STILL have this problem after launch when we had to deal with it ALL through your joke of an Early Access period? Instead of getting fixes for this we get an apology post and a whole lot of nothing.
I, for one, am very upset about this. I pre-ordered the game and the only time I've actually been able to play it was last night, for about an hour. I guess I made a mistake in logging off of the game?
While I'm not upset that I've essentially lost out on $29.99 which is what I paid for this game on Amazon, I am upset that I won't even be able to play it to decide if it's something I'd enjoy or not.
At this point, I have absolutely zero intention of subscribing to this game just to be greeted with a 1017 error because Square Enix did not properly estimate how much server load there would be. I appreciate the nice note during the beta on "keep trying" but I don't have the time or patience to sit in front of my screen and push a button over and over to gain access to something that I paid for.
I wonder if I can get a refund through Amazon?
I wish people would stop saying 1.0 was just as bad... I was on palamecia til they merged some servers... I NEVER had login issues in 1.0... it started buggy but they were able to fix the bugs WHILE WE PLAYED!
