Longer open beta with level cap would have left few still playing after the weekend and done with cap. No cap and no save of char would have been much less people.I can't help but think that maybe, if they would have had a full-time beta test, rather than a skimpy weekend here and there, then maybe they would have discovered these server issues.
Additionally, I got the preorder only because the advertisement stated that we would have early access to the game. It is in writing, in plain English, and no SE fanboy is going to twist words to reinterpret that for me.
Otherwise, I could have just waited and watched, noticed the poor handling of the issues, and opted to go with a different game, which in retrospect, probably would have been a better idea.
They did the best thing to test for stress, longer does not mean better
this 1000xAs long as there continue to be white knight MMO apologists assuring everyone that debilitating login and stability issues are "to be expected", such issues will continue to plague MMO launches, because no one is holding companies to task for releasing broken services. If people collectively put their foot down and said that these sorts of predictable logistics issues were no longer acceptable, you can be damn sure they would stop.
It's not 1999 anymore. It's almost 2014. Mainstream MMOs have been around for more that a decade and a half now. Publishers no longer have an excuse for not being able to adequately anticipate launch stresses and plan accordingly so as to avoid prolonged service outages. No one would accept any other piece of software that crashed 90% of the time and didn't work for weeks after release, so why does everyone just roll over and accept that an MMO is going to be unplayable for the first 2 weeks after launch?
The companies that continue to do this need to start being made examples of...I just don't want ARR to be the start - cuz I actually want to play this one. But as long as we, the consumers, continue to buy untested, buggy, broken messes of games (or, in this, the game isn't broken, but the servers and customer service are), it gives companies the green light to release faulty games on their rushed timeline and fix them with patches later.
But, just from what I see on this forum, that's not going to stop anytime soon. So many players actually DEFEND this disturbing practice by game companies. It HURTS players, and they not only endure it, but tell us we're stupid for not being silent about it. Lemming complex, maybe? Like pushing someone forward so you can be closer to the ledge, or something.... I don't know how else to describe what's wrong with these people.
Considering that SE already failed at the launch of 1.0, and has made MANY public statements about the importance of regaining the players-base trust... Taking away promised bonuses is not a smart way of doing business. Your argument does not help SE in anyway.Pre-order does not guarantee any of the bonuses, read any website where you can possibly pre-order. They are BONUSES, not something you PAY FOR! So no matter how you look at it, you did not pay for early access, you paid for the game on day 1. They can add or take away anything they want pre-release. Would you be this mad if, say, Amazon decided that they didn't want to include early access codes with their pre-order? They have that right and even if you pre-ordered it a year ago when it said it did come with early access.
How long have the servers already been up and running in japan? When I hopped on to one yesterday, they already have level 50 characters. If they have been up for a while, couldn't something have been learned from that?
As far as I know JP has had a single error when I logged in earlier where the JP servers wouldn't load. Other wise, they've been smooth sailing the entire time.
Meanwhile the rest of us have every problem under the sun lol.
I do defend SE at this point and only until Tuesday, if it's still this bad then that's another matter.
I worked in the video game industry for 5 years, seen and helped with the release of some big names, and so I can understand from their side about day 1 (or before) issues, ESPECIALLY server issues. Honestly, some of the games I worked with had such severe server problems they went down the second the game launched and stayed down for 2 days. Luckily, those games had a single player aspect to them, so the complaints were not as big, but still.
I understand feeling like the early access is paid for, but think of it this way...would you expect to pay any less if they had not offered it? If you say you would not have purchased it because of 3 days early access, then you're probably not SE's target anyway. You're paying your money for the licence fee, that is all. No more, no less.

What I want to know, is why is it impossible for the queue to act appropriately? Or is this acting as intended and by that I mean, not working. If server populations are impossible to manage in the beginning of the game(even though with pre-orders they know the number of potential bodies on a server, do they not? give or take), then why can they not at least set the queue up to act correctly in that we could log in and queue up and wait hours to play, vice spamming connect and join until I might be able to get in. That's my biggest complaint about this fiasco of an early access.
Ill go out on a limb and say if we cant play the game now, (havnt been able to log in since this morning) with a far smaller userbase, how are we supposed to be able to play when everyone else starts trying to log in on/after offical launch?
This is starting out to be a very irritating week off.
I preordered this game back in 2010. I demand a refund since the servers aren't stable. Jesus, you kids need to grow up. Preorder bonuses don't even need to be guaranteed. I bet you're probably the same idiot who preorders a game just to get a 'good' weapon or skin or something. Pathetic. I pre-order things because I like them. It's an MMO before the launch date, boohoo.
Can't wait till all these little kids ragequit so us Legacy players who have always supported the game can finally have some peace and quiet.
