Pre-order does not guarantee any of the bonuses, read any website where you can possibly pre-order. They are BONUSES, not something you PAY FOR! So no matter how you look at it, you did not pay for early access, you paid for the game on day 1. They can add or take away anything they want pre-release. Would you be this mad if, say, Amazon decided that they didn't want to include early access codes with their pre-order? They have that right and even if you pre-ordered it a year ago when it said it did come with early access.

If you can play on any server then SE haven't really failed in their EA promise.

Honestly both sides I see as correct. Advertising a bonus as incentive to buy obligates them to fulfill said bonus. At the same time, It is only a bonus, therefore nothing was paid for it so they can use that time as they see fit. Should people be compensated for the problem, honestly I dunno. The only thing that bothers me about this whole thing is the lack of communication coming from SE. Bits and pieces are being said by them, and with what little they give the players guess on the rest. To me the focus should be getting SE to tell us what they are doing to fix the problem and a "estimated" time frame for said fix. Instead of debating the "worth" of pre ordering for early access or whatnot.

As long as there continue to be white knight MMO apologists assuring everyone that debilitating login and stability issues are "to be expected", such issues will continue to plague MMO launches, because no one is holding companies to task for releasing broken services. If people collectively put their foot down and said that these sorts of predictable logistics issues were no longer acceptable, you can be damn sure they would stop.

It's not 1999 anymore. It's almost 2014. Mainstream MMOs have been around for more that a decade and a half now. Publishers no longer have an excuse for not being able to adequately anticipate launch stresses and plan accordingly so as to avoid prolonged service outages. No one would accept any other piece of software that crashed 90% of the time and didn't work for weeks after release, so why does everyone just roll over and accept that an MMO is going to be unplayable for the first 2 weeks after launch?

Game be over a decade years old, I am sure they have the technology nowadays to do way better with stabilized servers.

I am sick of seeing the argument that ppl did not pay for early access. Yes they did! It was advertised as part of the pre order. Pre ordering the game gets you early access AND the game. You pay for what is advertised in the package they sold. You can not get access to early access without paying money!

But you do not pay extra for preorder. You paid for the game, actually you pay for the game when it ships or is picked up on Tuesday, and get EA as a bonus a for helping SE know your going to play to help estimate server loads and such.

And for most/many the only downtime has been maintenance time, so overal early access is fine. Picked to big of a server? Deal with it or reroll onto a server with room, unless your legacy it's not much to redo...

I can't help but think that maybe, if they would have had a full-time beta test, rather than a skimpy weekend here and there, then maybe they would have discovered these server issues.
Additionally, I got the preorder only because the advertisement stated that we would have early access to the game. It is in writing, in plain English, and no SE fanboy is going to twist words to reinterpret that for me. In order to start getting your money sooner than launch day, so they can start paying their investors, SE opted to have a preorder, with the incentives being early access, some crappy hat and whatever else.
Otherwise, I could have just waited and watched, noticed the poor handling of the issues, and opted to go with a different game, which in retrospect, probably would have been a better idea.

I agree with Keiichi81. In 2013, there is no excuse for crappy MMO launches, if things were done and tested correctly during the development and testing phases of the project.

I'd rather them shut the game down now and wait till 27th...but we done did that in Phase 4 and we got more and worse problems than ever.

Don't hold your breath and hope the server capacity increases on tuesday. there will only be a message saying "sorry, we hope you understand" and they will "try" to fix the problem as soon as they can.
