I play on pc on max at 60fps even in crowded areas with this new computer I built. I wasn't expecting much on PS3 tbh, but I planned to use it for stuff like gathering sessions and stuff I just want to lie on my bed and relax to do.

Anyway, PS3 and PC on max 60fps is night and day.

The framerate is absolutely horrendous on ps3, maybe 20 I was getting in limsa, also the animations were clunky and the textures and overall lighting were terrible. I wont be playing the game at all on PS3.

Im sure its fine if you have no real idea how the game looks and runs on a good pc.

As they say.. ignorance is bliss.

But I could never play or enjoy the game seriously on the PS3 after playing on max PC settings.

I am not sure if this could be part of the game or your tv, but ive had problems displaying 720p on a 720p TV in the past. sometimes the TV renders all messed up depending on the input type, and no amount of settings configuration will fix it, this was my experience with phillips TVs.
Sometimes displaying 720p on a 1080p TV will result in screen cutoff, even with correct settings. sometimes displaying non interlaced video will create a double interlaced problem (which nearly sends you into a seizure).
All i can think of is maybe the other games display in either interlaced or a higher resolution than what FFXIV is doing? but i dont know, i do not own any Sony products after the whole sony rootkit fiasco.

You can move the text box... Hold L1 and press right analogue stick to enable the cursor and drag it where you want it (hold L2 I think and drag from the speech bubble icon by the text box).

You're absolutely right, the difference is night and day. But the game is still perfectly playable on PS3.

you want to use the picture fit or just scan or full pixel setting. This tells your TV to display the full resolution your PS3 is outputting. Otherwise you will get a cropped screen.

You shouldn't expect the PS3 version to look as good as the PC, but at the same time don't blame XIV for not knowing how to use your TV.
I'm not sure how prudent it is to tell people they don't know how to use their TV, unless you're an expert on all or even most of the televisions in the market. Shifting the format/display/picture-size button on the remote does nothing to fix this overscan issue for me, and I see no other settings in the menu options to attempt to deal with it. I'm using a 2012 Panasonic Viera plasma, in case anyone is familiar with that line.
I can shift the whole chat box up in mouse-mode, by holding and dragging over the "general" tab. That makes the bottom text for that box visible. However, moving windows does nothing to fix the overscan clipping of the info boxes that appear when you cursor over a piece of gear or an ability (since you can't actually target those info windows to attempt to move them).
I'd also like to note that this is the only PS3 game I've ever had this issue with, so the onus is definitely on SE's part to provide a solution.

Nobody should compare up-to-date, modern PC's to a 7 year old console... ever. However, for its age and what it is the PS3 runs this fantastically. I'm just going to add, don't just look at the picture ratio, also go into sharpness and contrast etc as that can make a huge difference. That and the in-game UI editor to change the sizes of the UI makes the PS3 easily enjoyable. At the beginning of P3 I was complaining that the PS3 look really bad but realised very quickly that it was just my tv's settings. I am having a much more relaxed and enjoyable time chilling out on my sofa, playing on a 42" HDTV than I ever would hunched over a desk all day.

On Panasonic HD plasma displays, for the HDMI port you’re currently using, select Menu > Setup > Picture Overscan, and turn it OFF. If you are unable to find the Picture Overscan option, then try fiddling with the Aspect settings. You will probably find it set to Auto. Switch it to 16:9 and you should find the Picture Overscan option will be available from the Setup Menu

some times you just have to do a little leg work of your own. Google search is a wonderful tool when you're seeking a solution to a problem.
I know it's easy to blame something/someone else when technical problems occur.

    Server issues = SE problem

TV cropping issues = User problem.

in the future when you encounter a problem type into good search "Panasonic TV cutting off edges" and voila you get results. Don't make gen discussion boards your first stop and point blaming fingers.

Actually, you'd be amazed how many people don't know how to use their TV. Most TVs these days don't have to be programed like before where antenna was a viable backup. With cable or satellite using converter boxes that are directly controlled to change channel the TV just need be plugged in and turned on. That said, I do have a computer that runs this game really well, I've set it up between High and Maximum and don't notice any slowdown or stuttering. I still got the PS3 version and prefer to play it over the PC version. I play both with a controller so there's really no change in how I play, it's largely about convenience. With the PC I'd have to boot into Windows and deal with a half hour of updating and restarting (I use Linux as my primary OS) before I can do anything. But more importantly, I don't care about the looks. I played FFXI on a PS2 then PS3 up until Adoulin. I don't think I'd have gotten into these games (XI and XIV) if it wasn't for the console releases.

following up on my previous post

I was messing around in my TV menus some more (while waiting aimlessly in the server lobby) and I did find a sub-section I hadn't found previously and was able to toggle some things to mitigate the overscan clipping.
At the same time, I would really like an in-game setting to adjust this (a common feature in other console games). For the simple reason that having to switch settings back and forth every time you play something is kind of a nuisance.

I can deal with the screen cutting UI elements because they can be rearranged if need be. However, PS3 graphics and resolutions pale in comparison to PC. There is also a considerable frame-rate slowdown on PS3 during FATEs involving multiple large-scale enemies performing flashy abilities. I had a chance to play the PC version and it was simply beautiful. PS3 players don't know what they are missing out on. There is also significantly more screen realestate on higher PC resolution settings, which makes a huge difference
