One thing I've always found off about this game's music is the battle scoring. Going from a really nice theme like 'On Windy Meadows' (La Nosca theme) to some high-strung mediocre guitar riffing that even the members of Disturbed would cringe at... seems a bit out of place IMO.
I also dislike the Battle Theme music. Synth-guitar and synthesizer music in general does not fit and does not belong in this environment. The music itself is not horrible (but not exceptional either) it is the Instrumentation that bothers me.
Papa was a rolling stone...wherever he laid his barbut was home.
That battle music style is a trademark of Uematsu since first FFs eheh.. and i love it.![]()
To me it is perfect at the moment, I never get tired of the music. But remember there is new areas and cities opening up in the not so distant future and with that will come new music. Also is it possible to adjust the music to play songs of your choice like you could do in FFXI? (I never did that stuff but I had plenty of friends who were .dat freaks.)
I agree with OP, some larger variation of music would be nice. For instance, the ul'dar music is the same music when the update checker is running.
There is'nt much in the way of music in this game (although the music there is, is nice). Some more tracks would definately benifit the feel of the game

not to mention some themes are pretty much cutscene/quest instance only, I'd like it to cycle between a few themes for the cities and major walking areas.
I always listen to this when I'm traversing the plains of Thanalan

Seriously, it makes me feel adventuress like nothing else, even when I'm playing a game with environments as dull as XIV
Nobuo admitted he didn't get to see the finalized game before he made the music and there is some things he'd change. I wonder though if he could change or tweak the music, it probably be a lot better/more fitting in some areas.
I think he said that (^) in response to the score for the opening cutscene. He didn't say it in repsonse to the entire game soundtrack. The music for the intro has lots of dynamics and phrasing, and perhaps if he had seen the cgi before composing it, he would have composed it around the scenes he could see instead of the scenes he was forced to envision.
But all in all, Im sure it wouldn't be Nobuo's choice to use some of the music where it has been used. I think it's a crime that some of the best pieces on the soundtrack still haven't been featured yet, or are hidden in rare cutscenes. And the few good tracks we get end up being boring after such repetitive usage.
I really would like to see more dungeons with specific music themes or at least a general dungeon them for each dungeon type (cave type, ruins, etc.) Also it would be great if behest had different music than any other battle, much like how guildleves are different from the normal region battle theme.
Also having Uematsu on board, I can only hope that when true bosses are implemented, the boss battle themes are just as great as all his boss compositions ( FF 1-IX, Lost Odyssey).
EDIT: He really hit the mark with Coerthas theme though.
