Yep, zones with music need separate daytime and nighttime themes to break the monotony.
Traditionally, the most memorable songs Uematsu-san has composed for this series have been his cave / dungeon themes (in my opinion). FF6 is the prime example here. Yet the caves are the only places in Eorzea that have no music.
I love the music in this game, but I've heard the music in Thanalan enough to last a lifetime.
I suggested a custom soundtrack manager here..: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...dtrack-manager
Like it and/or comment if you agree with the idea.. ^^
Oh and it's "kai-neh", not "kain".. and it is feminine.. u.u
One thing I've always found off about this game's music is the battle scoring. Going from a really nice theme like 'On Windy Meadows' (La Nosca theme) to some high-strung mediocre guitar riffing that even the members of Disturbed would cringe at... seems a bit out of place IMO.
Nobuo said he was listening to 80s hair metal when he made some battle music, ok nobuo...for those of us playing this game in NA, we're over effing 80s hair metal, and we have been for some time now. This isn't the middle east where we get music 20 years after the fact. I wanted a classical FF soundtrack, and you gave me hair metal for battle music, thanks. Go back and revisit FFXI's battle music, it was hella simple. You just had to make that better somehow. And the town music? No town in this game has interesting music compared to Windurst, or even San D'Oria (hate those bagpipes). Gridania puts me to sleep, Uldah is too happy/relaxing. Limsa is okay, the only one that fits actually.

I miss the Summer Fest music from XI, I wish their holliday events had their own music.
I also hope we get a Summer Fest in XIV

Correction: 1 zone, 4 tracks: Theme, battle, leves and City track considering its in the same zone.
