Lol well I think we can agree on the "WTF was that" part... however... in my opinion it was more of a WTF did I just watch (in a bad way) lol.Ah, this could of been a better response if you had started with these three little words.
In my opinion.
For me, it wasn't bad. I personally think it was made to catch peoples attention, and be like...what the fuck was that, which it seems to be doing an excellent job of.
soo bad >..<
Dear Square,
I love your games, but this latest commercial was really horrible and it's going to chase away potential new players.

You guys worked on this for a year and a half.... -_-
Thanks. So let me get this strait... According to the Blog post :
You guys are assuming this was an NA targeted ad based on the fact that it has been seen on Syfy (an international network) and Adult Swim.My sources at Square Enix Europe tell me that from concept to completion, the commercial has been a year-and-a-half in the making, and it will be debuting in PAL regions in the weeks before ARR launches (which is why we cannot post the actual video here yet).
I don't know, I think we might want to work on our observation skills, NA might not have been the target audience kids, NA might have just gotten added into the playlist.

I can appreciate what they were going for in the commercial, but as mentioned it is EXTREMELY cheesy. The Japanese commercials are way better.
It's bad. It makes me feel more like a geek than anything else. BUT it's not as bad as the Family Auto Mart commercials I witnessed growing up.
i think it's simply because it's in English. So let me get this strait... According to the Blog post :

same thing as why this subforum is often called NA forum/section, sort of habitual apparently.
that said, i lived through 80s-90s cheese and i still do not agree with the commercial.
times changed, probably.
I've lived in PAL-land my whole life; it's still a bad commercial :SSo let me get this strait... According to the Blog post :

~Note to self: Stop logging out in silly hats~
It honestly felt like an old 1990's Power Rangers commercial.... which needs to stay back in the 1990's :/ Very cheesy and also 0 gameplay shown at ALL for a commercial about a MMORPG. Quite odd that their marketing chose this approach for the commercial >_>;
Every one of the commercials for FFXIV: ARR in america have been terrible. It's the voice acting man. It sounds like they took "Frank from marketing" at the NA Square-Enix headquarters and said, "Hey Frank, we need you to say these lines!"
Other then mentioning that my 11y old thought it was the coolest commercial ever, I'm not going to comment on the merits or downfalls of the commercial it's self, but assuming that it was made for NA, targeted solely toward, and that it's the only thing that SE has in store for NA is silly.
First off, considering the amount of hype generated at E3, and the fact that the NA servers for phase 4 were at max capacity the entire time, why would they actively try and make a bad situation worse by releasing ads for the NA market when they don't know what kind of server load there will be?
Say they start an ad blitz today with 3 new ads? Come the 27th even 10% more people try and log on then were trying to get on during beta, then the problem is way worse, no one gets on the server they want, huge queues, and SE gets a horrible release review.
People keep saying they need to release more and better ads for NA... did you not all play Phase 4? How many more people do you want on the servers at launch?
Give it a few weeks, let it die down, let the game get a good name going... THEN release some ads and drive up some traffic IF IT IS NEEDED.
I think they are doing exactly what they should be doing.
