I would probably fish if the food in A Realm Reborn was anything but useless.

Oh let's take a peek at what I can get from this item.

Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy, Vitality, Accuracy.

Didn't expect much to be honest, this is the man that said having internet is stressful.

It looks like fun. The only thing that remains to be seen is if the resulting fish is inventory or not. If not, well, they'll need to do something to give it some purpose (other than just completing fishing logs). Someone even posted just the fishing part of the LIVE Letter yesterday (YouTube link). I think my most negative reaction will be "meh", but then again, I didn't fish to gain mad gilz, just to get crafting mats and enjoy the process.

ditto. with 19 classes to play with I'm not bent out of shape about this. It was like this in Florensia, a very nautical based MMO, and it was pretty convenient to have something going when I went afk for food or bio, or when it was late and I was overtired and didn't want to do anything but talk to my guildies.

Maybe 2 types of fishing is the answer. regular fishing the way they intend it to be and Flyfishing rods. for active fishing with better rewards.

I think I'm the only person in the FFXIV community who doesn't care about fishing..

Fosho, fishes need to be and always be used for cooking. Fishing is not a sport... it's gathering and a discipline for survival.

Maybe fishes will come in all shapes and sizes but hopefully like in FFxi, we can fish up mobs and NMs too... and also cook 'em for dinner! Gwahahahahahaa!

To be honest i always missed The "Contest" Part in FFXIV's Fishing. Like what's the actual Size of the Fish, give me some Credit if i catch a big one, Ingame Competition against other Fishers, Show off, "Hunting Log", really rare fishes, day/night time fishing and also dependant on weather and so on.

So i really welcome all the Changes and what they showed in the Live Letter about Fishing. So i am really forward to it.

Yoshida: ...the concept that we have for fishing in FFXIV is that we didn’t want to make it action based. We didn’t want actions like a battle class has, or to be pressing buttons at certain times like it was originally. Rather, we want to have players just go to a lake or river or ocean, and have players, depending on what type of water it is and maybe what time of day it is, choose which rod you are going to use, and maybe what bait or lure you are going to use. The concept is that fishing is supposed to be a conversation with nature. We wanted the fishing in fourteen to be representative of that.

We really wanted it to be something you can do in the free time that you have. For example, you go into the duty finder and while waiting in the queue, you can change to fisher and fish a little bit, and when your number comes up, change back and go. Or if you are waiting on a friend to log in. To be able to do something in that downtime that’s fun, but relaxing.

Even now, RMT can create bots to get around the timing of actions. *What we don’t want is to have fishing become stressful. **It is supposed to be a relaxing thing. **Pressing extra buttons for actions is going to create that stress. We’re going to make sure that the stuff you get from fishing is not stuff that is going to be lucrative for RMT. The system needs to be relaxing.

$What we want is for fishing to be more about what you’ve done. So maybe achievements for catching certain sizes of fish? Or having a log that keeps track of your own collection of what you’ve caught before, or how big a fish you’ve caught before, or whether you have fished in all fishing spots? Having things that are connected to you.

For example, maybe you fish up a treasure map, and that map leads to a new quest- we are planning things like that.

*Was fishing in FFxi stressful? I don't mind the use of analog stick for fishing, that's what it should be all about.

**If it gets anymore relaxing while fishing for some of no value or is not lucrative, why fish if can just take a nap or just do leves?

**I never imagined fishing with so many actions, I thought it was only about gaining exp and using tackle/bait.

$ is all I care about what I have done! The difference between me and RMT is that I don't trade what is intellectually and virtually yours(SE) in exchange to real currency. Don't punish the rest of us honest players for something big corporations are doing under your nose. I'd rather you hire another RMT task force like from FFXi.

    Please don't spread in-game common-ism.

The game as a whole should be relaxing, fun but exciting! Fishing should be just what fishing is, skill-driven(maybe boring for some but exciting you). You know what's stressful to me? When RMT and casuals are the excuse for turning FFXiV into a game for Nubs.

I ask you this: :What importance will crafting be without it's counter part in gathering? Bring back spear-fishing! Let's also see the BIG fish!

In FFXI fishing wasn't a class. You could be a paladin or whatever, fish up a mob, switch weapon and attack. Because fishing is a class in FFXIV, you might have to fight the mob as a fisher, which doesn't sound like what you want. (If you have aggro, you can't switch classes or gear.)

Maybe you could fish up an item that requires DoW/DoM to use it, and it would pop a mob or NM. This doesn't have that immediate surprise/panic element, but in FFXIV that would only lock you into fighting it as Fisher class anyway.

Yeah, that sounds about right and totally wrong at the same time. It's seriously flawed IMO.

They want to fight the force against the RMT and make the value of items be nothing noteworthy so RMT leave the activity alone. Newsflash: People are already botting in the beta for Botany. So...should we strip down the activity to have no value?

This "too stressful" notion is becoming very annoying.
I highly doubt Yoshi is a hardcore player, I would believe him to be a casual player at best. I agree though that what he is doing to fisher will not stop RMT's they will just find another activity to profit off of.
