[Just a Question] About the possibility of a portuguese language in the game

    Hi, everyone^^

It's the first time I'm making a thread (and I don't know if its the place to put this kind of thread), so, if I made a mistake, just forgive me u.u

I'm a brazilian player and I've played the 1.0 version at server Ragnarok (in the last days, so I'm a big noob anyway). I'm not so familiar with english language, so sorry for my poor english knowledge u.u

Well, I just want to know if there is a plan to we get an option to put the language of the game in portuguese, or a portuguese client to download or something like that in future...

    Thanks for possible answers^^

See ya in Ragnarok before 27th august

I think you could expect a Spanish version for release before Portuguese. It isn't the same but at least Spanish is closer xD

Hmmm... yes, but, I prefer english anyway... hehehe.

If they make a portuguese version of the texts a big lot of brazilian players could join FFXIV. In my country, there is a great number of FF fans, but the majority of them don't speak english. It's some kind of a barrier for them. At this time, in Brazil we have a great improvement in access to games and money to spent in this kind of entertainment... So, if SE wanna more money comming, the portuguese language is the way to go beside spanish...

The problem is they will need to employ a localization team for Portuguese full time and this will cost them a lot of money, they need to weigh the cost of translating all game text for the lifetime of the game against the extra money they would receive if they would get less money than it would cost, it wouldn't be sustainable.

Unfortunately this is the reason, and with SE's current position, I don't think they could take any cost if Portuguese localisation didn't make a profit.

Ok, so... i guess that will be the way the things goes through. It's a bit sad but... what can we do?

If they put an employee from Portugal to make the translations i don't think this will cost much, but, again, like you said, because of the needed structure to keep the working on...

Well, let's wait to see what's happens, however...

It's not just providing translations..it's having full time reps like we see with the EN, FR, DE and JP marketing. They'd need to employ persons who could read Portuguese forums and respond to the fans' questions, and provide news, and also do community events like what we saw as far as the international media tour Yoshida took to San Francisco and London.

This is why I said the closest you'd get as far as localization would be a Spanish version.

Another interesting thought is which office would do the localization. EU? NA? I'm not too too familiar with Portuguese (though when I hear people speaking it I understand about 80% of it due to being fluent in Spanish >_>), but aren't there some differences in Brazilian vs European, that's moreso than say, American vs British English?

Ontopic: I would like to see more languages added down the line, but I'm with Vil - I think we'd see spanish next over anything else and that's 'if' they added it ; ;. I wish it wasn't so difficult to add them, so the game would be more accessible to those that wish to play it but it's all about cost & returns ;;.

I hope you all have a wonderful day! and OP, your english is better than a lot of native speakers, so don't worry
