Literally the entire premise of the new plot of ARR hinges on the Calamity. No /spoilers/ needed--its in all the trailers. Like it or not, everybody's going to be hearing aaaaalllllllllllllllllllllll about Dalamud for a looooooooooooooooooooong time.I like the idea....but that said:
Maybe Dalamund should only stay 'part of the story' Hopefully years from now, the failure that was 1.0 will barely be remembered by anyone except the few of us who actually were there that day. So in a way, have a 'Fall of Dalamund' festival every year, only muddy's the waters and keeps bringing up the ghost of 1.0. It is probably most healthy for the game to move on.

Correct, but it doesn't need to be its own event...as that event on 11/11 every year really only matters to 'Legacy' players...and hopefully, we'll be in the minority. Yes, the storyline revolves around it...which is exactly why we don't need yet another 'Dalamund event' Also, as time goes on, the storyline will progress beyond Dalamund.
You're not really asking to remember 'The Fall of Dalamund' because if you were, the current storyline more than satisfies that. What you are really asking for is to remember the Fall of 1.0. ...and really, that is best left in ashes. Reminding the playerbase/gaming community every year that this current game rose from the ashes of a dead game, isn't exactly the best way to heal a broken image. 1.0 was very special to some of us...but it will not be a shared memory of the majority of ARR gamers....they could care less about 'Goobue walls defending the town'...especially since they don't even have the Goobue mount to assist on.
Lastly, we have 'Founders' Day'...we also are being honored in other ways in game (spoilers). This is just another 'Legacy/1.0 Player' vs. 'ARR Player' thing the game doesn't need. I think we got enough...it's time to pass the torch and let new memories be made. It's time for new memories.

I would very much like to see an event of remembrance! Maybe not a happy go lucky carnival event, but perhaps a memorial "celebration" for all the lives that were lost, particularly for those that gave their lives to save the Realm, ie. the Adventurers?
(That everyone thinks are dead)
And hey! It would be just around the corner from ARR's release! Almost like an anniversary!
