they're planning to make bank on the PSN tho. i think thats how theyre planning to afford selling a 600 dollar system for 200 dollars below market.

The major difference, is that this is still optional. You don't have to sign up to a PSN account to use your PS4 (unless you want to do online gaming). XBone you have to sign up and pay for extra online fees, even if you never plan on using it!
Common Sense is a language most misunderstood on the continent of the MMOForum
And even *single player* games will stop working if your console doesn't phone home every 24 hours or so.. screw that.
that's not true, well the PSN part it is, but the cost of the console is less than 400$, so they'll make money with every unit sold.
Historically, almost every console has been sold at a loss, with the hope that the game sales will pull them out. ps1, ps2, ps3 all sold below cost. Nintendo, sega genesis, n64, the list goes on.

Right, I pay for a service and game that is constantly updated and it doesn't bug me. It's like subscribing to a weekly journal or magazine. And I can still take my computer to my friends house and play the game if I desire.Hilarious though, that we're MMORPG players who, once we buy the hard copy of the game, cannot lend it, re-sell it or play it round our mates (unless you get them to install it a day in advance) and we don't complain. We have to have an always on connection, and when our 'net goes down and we can't play, we don't rage at the PC manufacturers... Hell, we even pay £7.99 a month for the privilege.

But Console games typically don't offer such content upgrades, and when they DO, you pay for them as if you were buying a new game, albeit at a lower price point. This isn't even accounting for how many gamers DON'T play MMO's in part because they have no viable internet access. Teasing that we're not allowed to go 'hey that's not what consoles should be about/require' simply because we also happen to play MMO's is pointless.
I shouldn't have to 'rebuy' a game because I wish to take the game disk, and my saved character data and walk into my bedroom and continue playing it...so that my husband can play a different game on the xbox I had been playing on...or even so that my husband can watch tv.
Xbox/Microsoft...and the game developers pushing for this, just really didn't think things through.

I wanted to watch the new ARR trailer on my TV last night for the bigger picture and the X360 was the most convenient way to do so. Apparently, you need to be a Gold Subscriber to use Internet Explorer now. It suddenly became more convenient to wait 60secs for my Win7 PC to boot up^^
