


Are you the developer?According to the Square Enix Defense Force they went out of their way to call the PC beta "free trial", while calling the PS3 Beta "Beta". Which is obviously ludicrous, because it lacks any kind of communication consistency and clarity, and doesn't address the fact that you can't offer a "free trial" of something that is already free, and betas are free for everyone.
Where is this supposed MMO developer rulebook you seem to be quoting?
If SE calls it a trial, its a trial.
Unless it's a beta. Then it's a beta. Let's call a thing a thing, eh?
Also, I still see no evidence of them calling the beta period the official free trial period for PC users.



No, just a game journalist that happens to be rather privy with game industry terminology. No need to be a developer for that. In no shape or form a beta is ever called a "free trial", because it's already free for everyone, and because it doesn't allow to try the final product.
If a developer comes up and decides to call their Pay to Play game Free to Play, it doesn't magically become free to play.
