Early access is open to everyone, so it doesn't apply. They promised a free trial, not a beta. I'm quite sure you're aware of the fact that "free trial" and "beta" are two entirely different concepts.

It's obvious that the few that are left here will play and pay, me included. The problem isn't me or us. It's the hundreds of thousands of people that quit the game because 1.0 was crappy, and now they're rightfully skeptical.

I can see a lot of people that would have given the game a second chance with a Realm Reborn not even bothering now if they have to pull out the credit card before they can see that the game is really reborn with their own eyes.

And honestly I can't blame them. It simply a very bad business decision.

I don't think the issue in question even comes close to comparing to the issues that led to 1.0's faliure.

People are crying about one month's payment. Many of us have been playing MMOs for years. This is not a big deal.

It's a big deal for the many that are already (understandably) skeptical about the game, and were going to give it a second chance because they didn't have to spend anything upfront.

Now that they have, I can see many of them not coming back at all. SE had a very solid advantage bringing back almost all the people that bought 1.0 with a free trial, and with this they're burning a sizable part of it.

The whole "hey, come and try it, it's free, and if you like it you can stay and pay later" option that was the smartest thing to do (and what they initially promised) is gone.

No early access is ever longer than a week per industry standard. There's no indication that it's going to be longer for this game.

There is no industry standard for early access. Not every game does them, and they have been of varying lengths.

People will feel entitled to what Square Enix promises, and Square Enix promised a free trial, that isn't being delivered.

Most of us have already been trying the game for free for at least phase 1 and/or 2 of the beta. There's 2 more phases. There's early access. I don't know how this couldn't possibly be more than enough FREE! for you. Early access is the free period they promised. There was no set date range or time period given- EVER- only a vague "current players get to play for free before the game is available to everyone else." Since all current players were automatically eligible to participate int he beta, that technically fufilles this.
