Why does it need to be so black and white?
Just cause whatever deity is connected to your birth date, doesn't mean you can't associate with others; after all...you did pray to ALL of them.
I don't see why your equipments would change, just cause you change what deity you associate with.
Maybe there will be new ways to obtain those rings though.

I chose Menphina because it was the 2nd and I was going by my birthday. 2nd month, so I figured Menphina was the right choice.

I thought of doing that, but then I figured who knows if I'm going to pick right and what if something later makes me facedesk o_o so I just chose the deity that resonated with me the most, regardless any other real life reasons or the class I would play. Very happy I did so, cause a) I like food, b) looooove :3

Birthday? Wat? My issue is that, knowing nothing about the lore aside from what the Character Creator told me in September 2010, I picked the one that was linked to Thaumaturge and called it a day. Since then, jobs have been released and the lore has changed. It no longer fits. I'd at least be able to reconcile the inconsistency if I had anything to do with Ul'dah, but I don't. There's no birthday involved, just in-game storyline consistency.

I'm grateful for the chance to align with the deity I've fallen in line with, I'm just going to feel like a goofball with the wrong ring representing the completion of the 1.X storyline. It's not like I can't learn to deal; it's just... why not?

Why not just throw a targetable "???" on a statue that, when you emote at it wearing the ring, checks for an inconsistency between the ring and your guardian and, PRAISE THE TWELVE, makes things right? Even one that's only there for a limited time? Too much effort for not much benefit to the company? I understand.

Youuuuu try that "equal footing of the gods" blasphemy on an Ishgardian and see if you don't end up setting the realm record for most spear holes in one ass. The Twelve are in the same belief system, but they aren't exactly allies. Often, some of them are at flat out war with others; the Moogles left their realm because of it. They're like the city-states themselves; they only stop going at it amongst each other when something threatens the collective.

I picked Menphina on the basis of ice alignment, preferring the serenity of the moon to a warrior's fury. Two years later and I'm intending to swap to a male keeper of the moon. It kinda just worked out.

I just had the 1 in 6 chance of being lucky and choosing a random deity which, a year later, had the elemental allignment that I wanted =b

Great question Fantasia... and although I'm unlikely to change mine, I'm kinda curious to see how this will be implemented.

By the way, I selected Halone because she's the patron for Ishgard, goddess of Ice, and I used to believe that her spears represented the Lancer job... may have actually represented the Three Great Spears of Japan Tonbogiri, Otegine, and Nihong (that was just extensive speculations we had on the forums a couple years ago)

I'm Halone at the moment, though i'm not sure i will stay with her. Thinking about switching to Azeyma or possibly Lymlaen. I agree it sucks but i won't be making my decision based on wether those crappy rings match with my deity, i will probably just incorporate it into my characters story. I don't think your deity should be a static thing that is unchangeable after character creation. Who people worship can change as they continue to move forward in their lives, so your deity ought to be changeable within the game. But it probbably should have some sort of restriction like having to pay tribute to the deity you wish to switch to.
