I thought of doing that, but then I figured who knows if I'm going to pick right and what if something later makes me facedesk o_o so I just chose the deity that resonated with me the most, regardless any other real life reasons or the class I would play. Very happy I did so, cause a) I like food, b) looooove :3

Birthday? Wat? My issue is that, knowing nothing about the lore aside from what the Character Creator told me in September 2010, I picked the one that was linked to Thaumaturge and called it a day. Since then, jobs have been released and the lore has changed. It no longer fits. I'd at least be able to reconcile the inconsistency if I had anything to do with Ul'dah, but I don't. There's no birthday involved, just in-game storyline consistency.

I'm grateful for the chance to align with the deity I've fallen in line with, I'm just going to feel like a goofball with the wrong ring representing the completion of the 1.X storyline. It's not like I can't learn to deal; it's just... why not?

Why not just throw a targetable "???" on a statue that, when you emote at it wearing the ring, checks for an inconsistency between the ring and your guardian and, PRAISE THE TWELVE, makes things right? Even one that's only there for a limited time? Too much effort for not much benefit to the company? I understand.

Youuuuu try that "equal footing of the gods" blasphemy on an Ishgardian and see if you don't end up setting the realm record for most spear holes in one ass. The Twelve are in the same belief system, but they aren't exactly allies. Often, some of them are at flat out war with others; the Moogles left their realm because of it. They're like the city-states themselves; they only stop going at it amongst each other when something threatens the collective.

That's... actually kind of a shame, really. The information you're given during character creation is only enough to pick which one leaves a good first impression, but you actually have to play the game to experience the lore required understand which one you really prefer.

I know it's a relatively small deal, overall... but isn't the entire point of the ring to have that feeling of identity attached to it? Small deal or not, being pressured to choose between two uncomfortable positions in terms of player identity (giving up the attachment you have to the item itself from being there to summon The Twelve, or giving up ever begin associated with the Guardian you feel right aligned with) is... well, that kinda sucks.

To put it in a personal perspective, I've favored THM over my other classes since day one. SE says THM and Nald'thal go hand in hand - so I act accordingly. Then they add jobs, THM becomes BLM and now it's all about Rhalgr. Calamity hits, we summon the Twelve, I automatically have my ring chosen based on my antiquated choice. SE offers the chance to fix one but the other isn't worth the trouble?

I get it - small potatoes... but... (/scratches head) ...that kinda sucks.

I originally signed on as Azeymas (even though I am a Moon kitty) as she is fire element and I am a RL Aries (fire sign) and I thought Nald'thal's icon was wierd (looks like a football). Now that I know more about the lore I feel that Nald'thal would be my guardian, but I already have Azeymas ring and dunno if it would be wierd to swap my chars alignment
