PS3/PS4 Purchase Question

Since I don't see this touched on anywhere I'd like to hopefully get a response from the community rep team.

If someone was to buy the Playstation 3 version for ARR and it was later decided that ARR will be supported on the Playstation 4, will that person need to buy a new copy for the PS4 or will it be similar to FFXI where you could install the PS2 version on the PS3?

As someone that's most likely going to be buying a PS4 right when it comes out this year, I'm reluctant to buy a PS3 version if it's only going to be for a few months.

It would be a new client so you would need to buy a new copy of the game. Remember PS4 is not backward compatible the PS4 is build more like a PC so with this in mind it be easy for SE to port FFXIV to ps4 but you have to buy a new copy.

But this does not mean SE wont offer PS3 players a way to upgrade to PS4 and allow you to download the game in the PSN store.

Will there be such an upgrade or will people that get a PS4 have to buy 2 versions? This is something that only Yoshi-P really knows at this point so hopefully the rep team can get a response

i'm not saying that they will be this upgrade i saying they could do it. I don't even think yoshi-p know seeing how PS4 is not even plan atm.

More than likely if it is released for PS4 it will be the newer DirectX11 client which the PS3 couldn't handle.

I do believe that you would have to buy a second copy, maybe they will do a deal if you have a ps3 version registered, but I'd be quite confident they haven't really thought that much about it as they are just trying to get to release first!
