Well you could assume the Sahagin were originally more in line with their FFXI counterparts and Leviathan's influence made them what the concept art is today.
There's things I wish I could say about the Sylphs but that will have to wait for a while.

This is a good point and I've been slowly reaching the same conclusion as I go along. I think the concept that the beast tribes look overwhelmingly different once they summon a primal may be something we once assumed but now forget to question.
It may be that the sylph, who still look cute and friendly (as do all the other non-violent races referred to as beastmen), told us that the beast tribes changed because of the primal - and then we saw legends of how they began, as feathered birds and normal lizards, and we connected the dots ourselves; the whole thing then snowballed to this. It happens.
I think the primals change the races they're associted with over a much, much longer period of time, where as summoning only changes their demeanor. The sylphs only say that they darken hearts and poison minds. The biggest and most immediate effects of physical summoning may only be behavioral - violence, zealotry, paranoia
The bad news? Less obvious - less dramatic; lot of bad assumptions. Silver lining? No one's ever seen the sahagin outside of that concept art. Their demeanor is all I'm going on, so I don't need to rework the assumption so much as we need to find better evidence against/for it.
At least the dev. team won't have new art packets to make if the Sylph really are the ones that bring Ramuh forth.NDA... But... ...crap. =.=

Well, at this point, I think we've solved all the issues we are logically able to and the rest are too ambiguous to be solved without some type of future intervention. We end up with (I think...) a logically sound theory that does not break any established canon, but isn't proven correct, either, as any of these could go another way without impacting the overall story.
THEREFORE,
These Loremonger articles will be written with the following assumptions:
(WITH FOOTNOTES, OF COURSE)
- In Shapeless Melody, Commodore Sthalmann is in disguise aboard the Astalicia (which itself is disguised as a passenger ship), while trying to get information, through the one-eyed Captain's dealings, on Caravallian's counterfeiting and smuggling rings.
- Y'shtola is in Lominsa in 1567, "five years" after the Sahagin start "breathin' down Limsa's neck" (getting violent and more confident thanks to Leviathan, first summoned in 1562 and temporarily, corporeally defeated by the Company of Heroes shortly after). She does not use any Archon-specific powers, only various impressive mage abilities.
- At the time the sea serpent leapt over the Astalicia, it was carrying nothing of interest from Seal Rock. H'naanza was simply fishing for answers.
- Brookhaven and Oschon's Torch were burned simultaneously. The Serpent Reaver group set fire to Brookhaven while Emerick and Travanchet covertly met off to the side without notice. However, Sisipu, escaping the blaze to the familiar Puller's landmark, witnessed this transaction.
- This presumes that, "Did you catch the man who was talking to the fishes?" was ambiguous and truly meant, "Did you catch the man who gave the Sahagin information?"
- The Starshower's appearance and Travanchet's arrival will be mentioned as happening at the same time with no further elaboration or speculation on the link at this time.
If anyone finds information to the contrary, please do let me know and we will clear up any errors.
SO, BARRING ANY ONE-EYED CAPTAIN VOIDSENT OUT THERE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH ANY OF THOSE ASSUMPTIONS BEING MADE...
That's where I'm going to get started.
Articles coming soon, folks.
Then it's off to Gridania with Catapult!

The cool thing about the Loremonger, is that we can always update it as new information comes to light.
/thumbs up
Quite the read. Thanks guys!

Is it Carvallain or Carvallian

Excellent! thanks!

Moose just can't spell. :P

It's one of those things where I spelled his name wrong the first time I ever tried to spell it and now my first-try accuracy is slowly rising over time. Presently I'm at about 70% Carvallain, 20% Caravallian, and 10% some hybrid of the two.
