Maybe if you want to be taken seriously you may want to try and make your point without hyberbole and strawman arguments?

I didn't miss your point, you're the one that exaggerated it to the point of not being relevant to the conversation at hand.

...do you realize the only person who didn't take me seriously was you? you're interpreting my argument as though the hyperboles were the only things in them; you're ignoring the actual fact in it and don't feel like acknowledging it because you want to be in the right here. However, if several people are telling you that you've been implying things like "voice acting is more intense than things like theater" or "japanese voice acting will be the best" not only on the forums, but on other sites as well, then maybe you should just swallow your pride and say, "well hey! i should probably word my posts a little differently so that i don't give off that impression an we can all get along." but you didn't, and that is why we're all here. it is not misinterpretation. it is not your "strawman" argument if the majority of us are interpreting it in the same way. it isn't the fault of the people reading for "misinterpreting" what you're saying; that's on you for writing it as such.

so yes, actually, you did miss the point of my original post, and you are missing pretty much everyone's points when they're trying to explain to you why they think you're giving off this message.

No, he did not. And just as Rowyne did, since you can't really counter my argument, you transformed it into something it isn't.
It's not that we can't; it's that we already did and you're just not acknowledging the fact in them. you say you're the one being misinterpreted here, but in reality you're kind of misinterpreting all of us and seeing only what you can see/counter. my original post wasn't even caustic towards you and yet you interpreted it as such and got extremely offended by absolutely nothing. so before you go throwing wikipedia articles at us, maybe you should read them yourself before you link them.

this is why i don't post much on the lodestone. i actually kind of defended you at first and respected where you were coming from but your recent posts and even me telling you that "yes, i understand japanese voice acting is very good" didn't not offend you. so you can think i'm misinterpreting stuff all you want. go do that until this topic gets locked or something (which it probably isn't far from). keep arguing; it's not gonna get you anywhere. we've all made up our minds.

anyways i'm going back to lurking on the lore forums because there aren't any close-minded jerks there. and there's actually intelligent conversation there. bye!

*i used very few caps in this post so abriael wouldn't take this post as a hyperbole*

The continuous use of hyperbole and strawman arguments taints your position and makes it impossible to take it seriously.

you that you've been implying things like "voice acting is more intense than things like theater" or "japanese voice acting will be the best"
Only, I didn't imply that, I never once talked about "Intensity" or "grandiosity" or anything even similar. if you want to stick those concepts on my arguments all on your own that's your problem, not mine.

They're simply not there, and we're not even talking about the same thing. I'm making a technical argument, you're interpreting it as an artistic argument. They're as compatible as water and oil.

"well hey! i should probably word my posts a little differently so that i don't give off that impression an we can all get along."
If you can't get along with someone that says something you can't agree with (or even better that says something your personal warped interpretation of which you can't agree with), then again, it's your problem, not mine. There's no need to agree to get along in civil society.

it is not your "strawman" argument if the majority of us are interpreting it in the same way. it isn't the fault of the people reading for "misinterpreting" what you're saying; that's on you for writing it as such.
Only, I'm not writing it as such in any shape or form.

Oh and by the way "four people agree with me so I must be right!" is normally a tad of a weak argument.

LOL. I didn't get "extremely offended". I didn't misinterpret your words. Quite the contrary, I took them at face value. You're the one that looks "extremely offended" because I dared to say that in a different nation they generally do a better job with voice acting than in the US.

If you think your first post sounded respectful, believe me, it didn't. I don't really mind though. I'm used to people being all bent out of shape on the Internets.

As for "arguing", this is a discussion forum. It's made for discussion. The mods may consider locking it if insults start flying, which mind you, you just initiated, but I won't really continue.

anyways i'm going back to lurking on the lore forums because there aren't any close-minded jerks there. and there's actually intelligent conversation there. bye!
And you straight out insulting people by calling them "close minded jerks" doesn't add any solidity to your argument. As a matter of fact it proves my point. If you can't hold a discussion in disagreement without getting pissed at your counterpart and insulting on a personal level then the problem is on your side.

As others here you're taking it personally, while you shouldn't, as you're not a voice actor and you're not personally involved in the topic of discussion, other than being a "fan", which is not the most rational point of view to look at things.

... can we lock this thread or get back onto the topic at hand? To be honest all these long arguments are really offputting and are probably making a lot of people feel uncomfortable. We learned a lot of really interesting things from this event. I'm sure a lot of people really want to talk about those things, but they're afraid to in case they get dragged down by all this negative energy. We're supposed to be a community, this is Final Fantasy, there's a lot to look forward to. There's no point getting all wound up for no reason at all and turning the public forum into a battlefield. I know I'm not a moderator and we're all free to share our opinions, but I think things are getting a bit out of hand, and it's not what people want to see when they come online.

In a discussion forum you'll have discussion and debate. It's what a forum is made for.

It'd be lovely to be able to discuss with differing opinions and positions without people taking such difference as a personal affront, I give you that, but this is the internet. People *love* to take things personally on the internet.

I'm personally not offended or angry, it's something you get used to. It can be somehow exhausting when continuous resorting to strawman arguments and misrepresentation comes into play, but there's nothing inherently wrong in debate on a forum made for that.

That said, you're very free to steer the conversation in another direction, instead of just coming here telling "hey! Listen to me! group hug! group hug!"

I'd welcome it, that's for sure. I've said my piece on the issue anyway.

It's retaliation and stubbornness that's getting to me really. Of course there will be differing opinions, but people just seem to be carrying on arguments for the sake of it. I do think group hugs are in order, but maybe that's just me I'd just feel more comfortable in a calmer atmosphere.

Anyway I won't say anymore on the matter, I just wish people would be more civili and get along. I know there'll always be conflict in the world, but this is a video game message board, we're talking about a fan event, I don't think people need to be so angry.

I just listened to the new Ramuh track and loved it! That still leaves Titan and Leviathan themes, and Bahamut too actually! Perhaps Odin as well depending on his role. It's great to see Soken and the rest of the team putting effort into individual battles rather than reusing the same music over and over. Also I really like the idea of Ramuh being a forest guardian, it'll be interesting seeing how his battlefield plays out.

Also, I read somewhere that it was mentioned we'd be getting nostalgic armour in the game [e.g. from FFV] other than the WoL gear. Is there a source for this? The more armour the better, especially if we're getting a vanity feature.

Eh, that's what happens when people look at things with the perspective of the "fan", and voice actors have gathered a very emotionally-charged fanbase in the last decade or so. Just look at the kerfuffle about David Hayter not being chosen as a voice for Solid Snake for MGS5 (choice with which I personally disagree with, mind you). Some reacted to the point of hysteria.

Once we had Liam O’Brien as a guest in our podcast and the amount of drama happened around the decision of who'd be in it was amazing.

Where did you find it? If you have a link it'd be appreciated.

If they said it during the event I definitely didn't hear it sorry >_>

There should be another track too on the right hand side, 'decisive battle' I think?

Also someone posted an image of the Warrior of Light helm, have you seen it? I can try find it for you if not. It's pretty neat!

I think you mean this one?

Yeah now I remember what you're talking about. I'm trying to find the exact moment in which they talked about it to see if there's anything more.

Edit: found it. I actually thought I had included this in my report, but apparently I forgot about it. It'll be the FFI version and one of the items included in the collector's edition. We'll see the full pictures on May the 20th, and if I'm not wrong the whole armor set will be made (but I think the rest will be something you have to get in game like the Onion equipment in 1.0). There will be six or seven in-game items coming with the collector's edition, and those that had the old CE will get em automatically. (I'm actually gonna add this to my report for the posterity).

Awesome! I hope the Onion Helm will be available for those who were waiting for the PS3 version though! I didn't buy the CE because I knew I'd be getting it for the PS3 instead.
