thread post #1875. Rosetta Rouge Reporting. ...

Niqote, as an artist that uses a tablet, how long did it take for you to get used to the use of it? You're using a non screen based one right? I haven't used one a lot but I found it disorientating to use one as I'm used to seeing my pencil draw out what I'm doing. My current way is draw on paper, scan, edit with Photoshop for touch-ups.

~Random remark~ Sometimes it upsets me that I'm left handed in this right-to left world. Everything I write or draw get smudged. Luckily I rarely use inks so it's just graphite, but still it makes my OCD get worked up because I have to have clean hands. ANy other artistic Lefties here?

A frustratingly long time lol. I use an Intuos4 which I only got last year. I wish I had the money to blow on a high end screen tablet but alas ~ life happens.
I feel more comfortable with a real pencil and paper. Have you tried using a sheet of projection paper (clear paper) to put where your hand would normally smudge?

I have finished the list of doodles >w< also semi organised the front page ^_^)/" yay.
I didn't make links to other peoples art with the indications only because I don't want to have to constantly check them to make sure there are no broken links, I hope that is ok with everyone.

Well it's good to know that if I ever get a tablet I'll not be alone in the fact that it takes getting used to.
Projection paper is a nice idea, however being very obsessive over symmetry, I'm constantly all over the page. I really should do a few doodles here and there more often. With as much free time as I have now it would likely be worth it.

On a side inquirery, is redrawing someone else's work an OK thing as long as I don't claim to be the original artist? It's one of the things I love doing to practice non static face forward neutral posing.

What you are describing sounds like 'eyeballing' (looking at an image and trying to draw it exactly the same)
Now personally I am all for it, because it's how I taught myself to draw (nintendo64 game manuals).
Some people are very against it and will have no trouble expressing that.
I think a happy medium is, if you are going to eyeball - make sure it's not for profit... if you want to post it up (like DA or PiXiv) just mention a credit to the original and you should be ok ^_^

It can get very complicated very quickly though, because sometimes you will use something, but change it so very much that it is no longer recognizable as the original. Then the question is...do you need to credit anymore? Or if you draw something in another persons 'style' should you credit them even though it's an original work?
The internet makes some things in life harder to deal with XD
