I'll simplify it to this extent, in regards to FFXI...
If you paid extra, you got more storage space.
If you didn't pay extra, you had less storage place.
Surely you can accept that much... it's just fact.

The fact is that you didn't pay extra for more storage space. You paid extra for a security token to keep your account safe, and Square Enix freely rewarded you for that (as it saves them a lot of problems with account recovery and stolen accounts used by RMT) by granting you more storage space, for free.
There's no other fact. When you'll be able to point me to the Square Enix page where you can purchase the satchel by itself you'll have a point. Until then you simply don't.

Unless I spent extra, I couldn't get certain items in FFXI. Yes, that is fact...
whether you want to call it microtransactions or not is up for debate, but one thing is FACT: I could not access the Mog Satchel storage box, Tidal Talisman teleporting abilities, etc. without paying real money on top of my subscription.
There's no reason to think XIV: ARR won't do something similar.
With the ability to expand your inventory and teleporting already in the game, the virtual abilities were not at all needed to enjoy the game's highest content, nor were existing services restricted to make players buy the goods. People that were buying the necklace really were buying them for the necklace. Because teleports and warps were not at all expensive and were doled out easily in any party going somewhere. You can make that disconnect if it makes you feel better, but those bonus storage packs and bonus abilities in FFXI could not be obtained unless you paid extra, real-money on top of your subscription.
It was just a cleverly disguised way to sell virtual items, if you ask me.
But I'll go along with your logic...
The fact still remains that you couldn't get several bonus abilities and storage expansions in FFXI without paying extra ($10-$100+ per). Even if it was linked to a physical item, you couldn't get that stuff without paying extra on top of your sub.
That's your problem. Exactly like it's your problem and choice if you buy a happy meal for the surprise. That doesn't mean McDonalds is selling the surprise.Unless I spent extra, I couldn't get certain items in FFXI. Yes, that is fact...

It doesn't make them any less of a completely free of charge bonus for the purchase of physical items, and as such nothing comparable to microtransactions.
Which isn't the point of this thread, as we're talking about microtransactions, and those simply aren't. bonus and free in-game items for special editions, out-of-game merchandise and event attendance are are a widely accepted and harmless practice in the industry that has nothing to do with microtransactions and existed way before microtransactions were even a thing. There's no reason to think XIV: ARR won't do something similar.

inventory and storage space was always a huge problem in XI, and there was no way to expand your storage space to the extent that the Mog Satchel ($10) did, without paying extra. With the ability to expand your inventory and teleporting already in the game, the virtual abilities were not at all needed to enjoy the game's highest content, nor were existing services restricted to make players buy the goods. If you played FFXI even remotely seriously, you HAD to buy that satchel.
As for the Tidal Talisman party teleport cloak ($40) it wasn't as essential as the satchel, but it still did offer a unique teleport that you could not get through other methods (there was no teleport spells which let you warp your whole party from city to city like that)
And they still weren't microtransactions, as you simply could not purchase them.inventory and storage space was always a huge problem in XI, and there was no way to expand your storage space to the extent that the Mog Satchel ($10) did, without paying extra.

The simple fact is that FFXI never had microtransactions or cash shops, as much as you try (and fail very hard) to misrepresent reality and warp the facts to hint that it did.
You don't have to purchase microtransactions either?
and even if we're not labeling things like the Tidal Talisman teleport skills, and Mog Satchel inventory expansions as microtransactions, they were still game content which required users to pay extra on top of their sub, if you wanted them. You couldn't get that stuff on just a subscription.
Yes you do. Microtransactions involve by definition a purchase of the item in question. You're not purchasing the in-game item, so it's simply not a microtransaction.
Which has nothing to do with this thread, as this thread is about pets costing real money. A pet that would be granted as a bonus for a real item wuld not cost anything, as you factually pay for the item, not for the pet, which is free.and even if we're not labeling things like the Tidal Talisman teleport skills, and Mog Satchel inventory expansions as microtransactions, they were still game content which required users to pay extra on top of their sub, if you wanted them. You couldn't get that stuff on just a subscription.
Has Yoshi-P specifically said that none of the pets will cost real money?
