Are minions (vanity pets) going to cost real money?

There is no chance. Having pets does not nessesarily mean cash shop. It can meain game currency, or achievements, or even GC rewards. In your logic, Theorectically anything you could buy with gil in a game that hasn't released yet could look like a microtransaction, because they are all purchases. Now stop making something out of nothing.

OK, if you are just going to close your ears and keep throwing assumptions about a theoretical cash shop until some fool believes you. This thread is no discussion. You are clearly accusing SE of something it hasn't advertised it will do with ARR.

I think most realistically there will be some ingame minions and some cash shop ones.

If you don't think at some point they have microtransaction for pets,mounts, Change your char name, Change your char race, Change worlds your out of your mind this is a company they want to make the most money.

Sure at first we wont see microtransaction but i'm sure at somepoint they add mount that is the same as any normal mount you can get in game just in a new skin same with pets.

The only information we've recieved so far [to my knowledge]

•Pets will be collectable in-game through a variety of means;
-Ingame Purchase/Events/Achievements/Rewards
•Pets will have no 'advantages'
-No EXP Buff, No Stat Buff, No Bigger Boobs Buff


These completely cosmetic pets will almost certainly be a completely in-game.

Square-Enix as far as I can see has never for FFXI or XIV offered a 'Cash for items' service, and I don't see it happening any time soon.



(Unless ARR hits financial difficulties, then this would be a great idea among many others)

completely untrue, FFXI has had tons of microtransactions over the years

and Square Enix is no stranger to DLC and microtransactions, look at any of their other recent FF games which are all loaded down with paid bonus content

Micro-transactions for in-game items?
When?

E.G £4.99 for a Berret to give you +20% EXP for 72 Hours.
or
£10.00 for a mini-Leaping Lizzy

Actual in-game items what I'm talking about, such as gear and pets.
Not services such as server transfers.


I've seen other Square-Enix mobile games doing this yes, but not XI and XIV as far as I recall.

I could be wrong though, I am genuinely curious.

As a developer myself, i'd like to see if they did introduce it how many people would actually pay for items. Team Fortress 2 is a case-study of its own for people paying extortionate amounts of money for in-game items.

As a developer I think = More Money
As someone who plays games I feel its kind of a 'scummy' business model.
