Something is definitely weird. Allagan's are the ones who shot Dalamud into space in the first place. Allagans are the ones who invented (as far as we know) the religion of "The Twelve". It was supposedly the Twelve we were using to confine Bahamut once again. Also, nice find on that Into the Dark quote. That, itself, could reveal exactly where this all began with him... I wonder if the Allag themselves were at all pro-Bahamut or if the wiles of dragonkind were able to twist his "religion" the way the interpretation of all religions eventually is...
....Why would the Allagans invent Dalamud, shoot it into space and then provide the same technology to bring it back?
LOL! I didn't even think of how the word choice could backfire that hard. Man, that's one for the books!
GO GO GADGET RETCON PEN.
Inside my head, I was drawing a parallel to Limsa Lominsa - there are lots of reasons to lock up a mythic beast. The fact that we'd prefer the sea serpent credited to Llymlaen locked to his island doesn't mean we hate the Twelve, therefore I was musing on where the Allag might fall on a continuum of respecting the dragonkin to wanting them exterminated a la Ishgard.
Clearly they were not "Pro-Bahamut" Lmao.
The mystery is just how he got where he did.
Based on the story, I think we're to have a logic hierarchy
(A) Bahamut is the dragonkin's primal
(B) Bahamut's existence is bad for Hydaelyn
(C) As long as dragons exist, Bahamut will be summoned
(D) Eradication of the dragonkin is nigh-on impossible
THUS Bahamut must be sealed.
But it just doesn't sit right quite yet - Bahamut is oft considered ancient and wise; he's someone you must prove your worth to for one reason or another. I'm wondering if there's anything to that this time around, or if in XIV he's just all out of gum.
Perhaps sealing Elder Primals away is how you prove that your civilization deserves to stand; who knows. Musing gone wrong, lol.
Anyway, I think it's far more likely that the "wile" of the dragons twisted his loyalties to the Allag in order to fulfill the prophecy. That just adds another tragic layer to the tale... but it does relegate Darnus to a "LV50" boss if his endgame level counterparts were just manipulating him to be freed...

Its a simple matter of balance, can't have one without the other...probably what happened Nael found the tech that shot Dalamud out there and there was a reverse for the same thing near by or the specs for something like it... But why build either in the first place? Could be that Bahamut and The Allagans had a understanding at one point. Bahamut-God, Allagans-Followers , Til one day something tore that pact apart IE: questioning why Bahamut(God) would do such things...Etc and The Allagans took it on themselfs to handle the problem themselfs since no one else could and trapped Bahamut and shot him out there. Now in most groups there is bound to be people who where against said action and made a way to bring their beloved God back. And thus the war take took place and ruined them all...I could be wrong but it seems likely to me. Edit: lol i'm not a Lore-Monger, this is just off the top of my headSomething is definitely weird. I can't see inside your head, Moose. D=
Van Baelsar's words about Bahamut being a great sin sounds like the dragon was something they were guilty or ashamed of. Dalamud being a massive whoopsie that came back to bite all their descendents seems interesting to me. Perhaps they realized that what they had done was create something that spelled their own destruction (a la nuclear weapon, a popular theme).

I can't be sure of how significant it is but there is a theme of red with Dalamud and everything involved with it.
1. Dalamud is red (because of the colour of the life energy within?)
2. Nael's eyes turned red during united we stand and remained red. (because he was receiving Dalamud's power?)
3. Nael is reduced into red life energy? when he dies and lifts up into Dalamud.
4. Bahamut's concept art doesn't depict red eyes but there he is with red eyes when he is released. (Because he is juiced up on life energy supplied by Dalamud?)
Where as the twelve version made up of life energy was blue.
What do massive technologically advanced cultures need? energy. This is really stretching what we know but maybe the sin was the life energy(ala red lifestream, Terra and Gaia) rather than Bahamut.

The mother crystal is blue. The Dalamud of the Twelve was blue, the aetherytes were blue until they turned red... and now they're blue again.
Dalamud is red, the energy flowing out of the lunar transmitter is red, The aetherytes turned red...
I thought I red... er read something somewhere about this theme in another FF game, but I can't find it. ; ;
Both FFVII and FFIX had it in there =P not sure off the top of my head about the others.
*Spoiler alert*
VII: Jenova's life stream was red, she was alien to the planet.
IX: Terra's life force(souls) was red, Gaia's was blue, Garland's plan was to transfer all of Gaia's blue life force into Terra's red life force killing Gaia to resurrect Terra.

9 was the one I was thinking of (Please forgive me, I only played it once and thought it was hokey and didn't pick it up again. :X )The mother crystal is blue. The Dalamud of the Twelve was blue, the aetherytes were blue until they turned red... and now they're blue again.

I didn't realize Jenova's lifestream was red.... Oh yeah, she does have a glowy red eye. I'm not sure how far we can go with this one.
