As for the OP's question; I played since day one and honestly I thought the game should have ended a bit sooner><. I loved 1.0 but after learning of 2.0 it was pretty much just a waiting game since then. 1.0 gameplay was stagnant, monotonous and felt like filler for the most part to try to keep people entertained til 2.0 release D:

naah i dont agree, they shut it down at the right time, whats the big deal about it being a few months? time flies , after launch it wont matter anyway

from a person playing since launch, i think they didnt close it down soon enough

Well, they did reopen the servers after final save. I long in a few times after, but there were only me and the Npc when I did. So would say that it closed when it needed to. I'm one of those that played since launch as well. I hated to see it end, but it was for the best.

Perhaps if they pushed backed the final save till the beta test began we would be thinking of this very differently. The only reason the a lot of people stopped playing was because no progress would get saved. I do kind of miss playing some dungeons in 1.0 its too late now, might as well wait for 2.0...

that's because no other MMO ever *has* been completely rebuilt and relaunched, much less done so without complete data wipes. what square is doing is unprecedented. brand new territory. thus, the "i've never heard of another game doing this" rhetoric starts to sound a bit like misplaced, manufactured outrage.

How much time could copying character data take? I understand it is going to a new engine and all, but still. Final save was 4 months ago, by the time we play our old characters in beta it will have been 4.5 to 5 months ago which is quite a lot of time for them to do the copy. I have never heard of any game doing this, every gamer I have told has been absolutely shocked.

I just wish we had a few more months to play as I was still enjoying the game very much.

They did the final save too early. Many people still had a laundry list of things they wanted to do, but after the final save there was no point logging on, so the population declined.

I guess the reason it shut down so early was because they wanted to get the "final event" out of the way, which wasnt exactly must-see material anyway, so I dont get why they were in such a rush to let players experience that.

They definitely could have kept it up all this time for people to enjoy. Transferring data can't possibly take this long, even if they had to do it pains-takingly by hand, every individual bit of info at a time, which is just an implausible concept anyway, but perhaps the only justification.

Time flys? Give me a hobby to hold my interest for 8+ months and I'll agree with that statement lol.
