Agree, OP, succinctly put. IMHO if one finds it "weird" to have a certain type of race with both genders playable, it is probably due to gender stereotypes, homophobia of some sort, and/or sexism.

With Viera as an example: bunny ears are often associated with beautiful, enticing young women that are unashamedly sexually appealing. If one finds that untroubling, but replacing "women" with "men" in that description makes it offensive or "weird", I believe there is a problem. Similarly, making a big, weird looking lizard race male-only sends a negative message that visible, obvious physical strength and being unattractive is only acceptable for males.

Sorry for the mini rant, it is a pet peeve of mine when only female characters are sexy-fied while only male characters are big and unattractive because of such (not) wonderful reasons as: "eww, who wants to look at that" or "dude, that would be so gay". Single gender races are often just an extreme manifestation of this attitude.

Adding new races in a later expansion for a game that is designed around the idea of not restarting your character seems like a wasteful idea to me.

Personally I'd rather see the resources used on enhancing the current races more for the next expansion (more animations,emotes,hair designs etc) and resources designing new armor and such for the current races rather than having to spend the time and memory resources designing current armor sets for a new race.

I completely agree. I've never understood the allure of new races anyway. It makes even less sense to have an alternate character in XIV considering you're going to get all the classes/jobs on one character anyway. A new race is counter intuitive to the whole process.

I would much rather have an extension of my own character than see another race go into it.

The only solution to this is if they eventually allow for paid or non paid race changes (which I'd support).

The Final Fantasy series already has a Lizard race, native to Ivalice. The Bangaa. Would be nice to see them re-imagined for FFXIV ARR.

....and if they add Viera, they hint that they will implement a male only race as well. To further complicate this, a lizard like race....and I say ewww no thanx. Just give me more subligars and I'll be a happy camper. =)

If I wanted to be Vierra I'd go back to FFXII and have Fran as party leader, I could also choose to go back if I wanted to see those ugly things again.....those Bangaas! They're so hideous! Please keep them in Ivalice, where they belong. We have too many options as it is. (cant believe I'm saying that)

Eorzea is not Ivalice, and Ivalice races should not exist in Eorzea.

Personally, I would like to see a wolf race. Like Miquo'te but with wolf tails and ears...

They could be the race that hates the Miquo'te ;D

Eorzea is not Ivalice, and Ivalice races should not exist in Eorzea.

And Humes are in ALL Final Fantasies. Miqute are just Mithra from XI but better. Elezen are in XI.
If anyone else can think of where the other races are in an existing Final Fantasy title just put it here.

Also Yoshida listens to the Jap voices more than the american.. and majority of the Japanese actually do want Vierras.

They should also add a Lizard or rather a more monster like race that isn't so human like in appearance as every other race so far.
